Common buying mistakes

  1. Working out blade length from the deck width

A deck's width gives neither its blade length nor its blade count. Oregon lists 17-1/16 in blades used three per 48 in cut, and 25 in blades used two per 48 in cut on other decks. Find your deck's own blade record by part number.

  2. Matching a blade by length alone

Oregon's Gator G3 blades 96-347 and 91-635 are almost the same length, but one has a 5/8 in center hole and the other 3/4 in. Name the hole first: round, 5, 6 or 7-point star, bow-tie or S-shape. Never drill or enlarge a hole to make a blade fit.

  3. Buying a bagger for "42-inch decks"

Baggers fit by model family, deck size, deck style and years. Husqvarna's 960 73 00-04 is for 42 in stamped decks only, and Cub Cadet's manual says its 50 and 54 in stamped decks need a chute adapter that 54 in fabricated decks do not.

  4. Taking a "set" to mean every blade the deck needs

Read the count on each listing. Craftsman's 42 in CMXGZAM110108 contains one blade, and Toro's 79016P page names a pack in its title but says the blade is sold individually. Count your deck's spindles before you order.

  5. Towing past the mower's own limit

The towing limit is in the mower's manual, not on the hitch. For the TimeCutter SW 4200, SW 5000 and SWX 5000, Toro says towed weight must not exceed the weight of the machine, operator and ballast, attached only at the hitch point.

How we choose

We start from your mower's model and serial number. Deck sizes, blade lengths, center holes, bagger and mulch kit fits, bolt specs and towing rules come from the mower and part makers' manuals, parts lists, catalogs and product pages, and every value is labeled with its source. Where makers disagree or publish nothing, we mark it Not confirmed instead of filling the gap. We list a part only when its maker names your model, deck or part number. A store's name alone does not show that the brand authorized it. Nothing here has been tested by us; the specs we quote are the makers' own, not measurements.
