Short answer
Take every bolt, adapter and wheel size from your model's parts list, by part number, never from a generic chart. A bolt is defined by thread, length and grade, an adapter by bore, height and whether it carries a pulley, and a deck wheel by diameter, bore and hub. Torque values come only from your own mower's manual.

What this topic covers
The small parts under a deck hold the blade on and keep the deck level: the blade bolt and its washers, the blade adapter on the spindle, the deck gauge wheels and the anti-scalp rollers. They look generic and are not. This hub covers how makers list each one and what to compare before you order.
The decisions, in order
1. The part number from your model's parts list. Cub Cadet's parts search for model 12AQC22J709 lists bolts by thread, length and property class, for example Bolt M6-1 x 20 Gr8.8 (710-04918).[1] The listing does not say which item is the blade bolt, which is why the parts drawing for your model, not a bolt's name, decides.
2. Bolts: thread, length and grade. Cub Cadet lists part 710-1044 as a hex screw, 3/8-24 x 1.5.[1] That listing does not call it a blade bolt or name a mower, so treat it as an example of how a bolt is described, not as your bolt. The blade bolt guide explains thread size and property class.
3. Adapters: bore, height and pulley. Troy-Bilt sells blade adapters with the same 7/8-inch or 25 mm inside diameter in different heights, including 1.19-inch and 2.15-inch versions and 2.85-inch versions with a pulley.[2] It sells walk-behind adapters in both 7/8-inch and 25 mm bores,[2] and the two are not interchangeable. Some, such as 687-02539, come with an integrated pulley.[2]
4. Wheels: diameter, bore and hub. Oregon lists its 72-025 deck wheel as 5 x 2-5/8 in with a 1/2-inch bearing inner diameter, without saying which figure is the diameter.[3] It gives an offset plastic hub with a 2-7/16-inch hub length.[3] Cub Cadet lists its deck gauge wheel 734-04155 as a 5-inch wheel for 42-, 46-, 50- and 54-inch decks.[4] Compare diameter, bore, hub length and offset with the old wheel.
5. Rollers: per the manual. In Toro's Z Master Professional 7500-D manual, the anti-scalp roller mounting stack is bolt, bushing, roller, spacer and flange nut on side-discharge decks, and bolt, bushing, roller and flange nut on rear-discharge decks.[5] Exmark's Staris E-Series manual says not to adjust the anti-scalp rollers to support the deck.[6] Both are model-specific instructions; follow your own manual.

How to choose
- Open your model's parts drawing and note the part number of the bolt, adapter or wheel.
- Order that number, or a replacement whose maker names it.
- Compare each size with the old part: thread and length, bore and height, diameter and hub.
- Check what a set leaves out. EGO says nuts and bolts are not included with its AB2200D blade set.[7]

Choose the Oregon 72-025 (one wheel) if your old wheel is Cub Cadet 734-04155: Oregon's title names that number and Oregon describes the wheel for Cub Cadet products, but lists no models, so confirm in Oregon's Parts Lookup.
More on choosing
Choose the John Deere GX10168, the gage wheel on Deere's maintenance sheet for the D100 with 42-inch deck, and check the pack count on the listing. On Amazon, check that 'Ships from / Sold by' shows Amazon.com or the brand.

John Deere D100 to D170, L100 to L130 or S100 to S240: choose the Stens 210-051 (5 x 2 in, 5/8-inch bore, no bolt), which Stens lists as replacing GX10168.

Old-style Exmark Lazer Z, Turf Tracer, Viking and similar decks: choose the Stens 210-169 kit (5 x 2-3/4 in, 5/8-inch bore) if your old wheel is one of the Exmark numbers it replaces. Toro Recyclers from 2002 on: choose the Stens 400-320 blade adapter (1-inch crank) only if your Toro parts list shows 104-8687, 104-8695 or 106-3987, and reuse the OEM washer and spacer, as Stens says. On Amazon, check that 'Ships from / Sold by' shows Amazon.com or Stens.

Common questions
What do anti-scalp rollers do?
They sit at the deck's edges, near the ground, but they are not deck supports. Exmark's Staris E-Series manual says not to adjust the rollers to support the deck. More in Anti-scalp rollers on mower decks
Should anti-scalp rollers touch the ground?
Not in normal use on the Exmark Staris E-Series: its manual sets 3/4 inch (19 mm) of clearance to the ground in the standard position and recommends repositioning when the cutting height changes. For any other mower, use its own manual. More in Anti-scalp rollers on mower decks
Which anti-scalp kit fits my Toro?
Verify your model and serial number with Toro first. Toro's 108-4140 is a Z-Master trim-side anti-scalp kit, and Toro's page tells buyers to verify model and serial before ordering; it does not state contents. More in Anti-scalp rollers on mower decks
Are deck wheels and anti-scalp rollers the same part?
No. They are separate parts with separate manual sections. The Exmark manual cited here covers anti-scalp rollers only and does not mention deck wheels. More in Anti-scalp rollers on mower decks
What size is a lawn mower blade bolt?
The size in the parts list for your model. Makers describe bolts by thread, length and grade, for example Cub Cadet's 'Bolt M6-1 x 20 Gr8.8' (710-04918) or 'Hex Screw 3/8-24 x 1.5' (710-1044); neither listing says it is a blade bolt. More in Mower blade bolts
Do new blades come with bolts?
Not always. EGO says nuts and bolts are not included with its AB2200D and AB2102D blade sets. More in Mower blade bolts
Can I use any bolt with the same thread?
Order the part number your mower's parts list shows. Thread is only one of the properties makers list, and we give no substitution rule. More in Mower blade bolts
How tight should a blade bolt be?
Use the torque value in your mower's manual. This site does not publish torque values. More in Mower blade bolts
Questions
What size bolt holds my mower blade?
The one your model's parts list names; never a generic size. Cub Cadet's parts search lists bolts by thread, length and grade, such as M6-1 x 20 Gr8.8 (710-04918), but does not say which one is the blade bolt, so use your model's parts drawing. Torque comes from your manual.[1]
What blade adapter do I need?
The part number listed for your mower. Troy-Bilt sells adapters with the same 7/8-inch bore in 1.19-inch and 2.15-inch heights and 2.85-inch versions with a pulley, so the same bore does not mean the same adapter. See blade adapters.[2]
How do I measure a deck wheel?
Compare diameter, width, bore and hub with the old wheel, and use the part number it replaces. Oregon lists its 72-025 as 5 x 2-5/8 in with a 1/2-inch bearing inner diameter and a 2-7/16-inch hub length. See deck wheel sizes.[3]
What do anti-scalp rollers do?
They help keep the deck from gouging the turf on uneven ground, set as your manual says. Exmark's Staris E-Series manual says not to adjust the rollers to support the deck and to keep 3/4 inch (19 mm) of ground clearance in the standard position. See anti-scalp rollers.[6]
