Short answer
Decide first whether you need a tow hitch for pulled attachments or a sleeve hitch for ground-engaging tools, then order only a hitch its maker lists for your tractor. Take every towing limit from your own mower's manual, never from a hitch, a pin or a tire size, and use the pin and retainer the implement maker specifies.

What this topic covers
A tow hitch is a drawbar or plate you pin a cart, sweeper or other pulled attachment to. A sleeve hitch is a mounting for implements that work the ground. Husqvarna describes its sleeve hitch as accepting ground-engaging attachments such as a plow, cultivator or box scraper.[1] Both have to be listed for your tractor, and neither tells you how much the tractor can pull. This hub covers the choice, the fit lists, the manuals' towing rules and the pins.
The decisions, in order
1. Tow or sleeve. If you are pulling something on wheels, you need a tow point. If the tool digs, scrapes or cultivates, you need a sleeve hitch listed for your tractor. The sleeve hitch vs tow hitch guide covers the difference.
2. Listed for your tractor and frame. Husqvarna lists its tractor sleeve hitch 585 60 79-01 for garden tractors with 22- and 23-inch tires, including the TS 348D, TS 348XD, TS 354X and TS 354XD.[1] Troy-Bilt's sleeve hitch 19B30019OEM is for Cub Cadet XT2 Enduro garden tractors from 2015 on and is not compatible with lawn tractors.[2] Agri-Fab's 45-03022 sleeve hitch carton includes two pairs of left and right mounting brackets for different tractor frames, plus the frame, pivot brackets, lift parts and a hitch pin.[3] Its manual gives no list of approved tractors, so check your frame against the brackets.
3. Your manual's towing rule. Toro's manual for the TimeCutter SW 4200, SW 5000 and SWX 5000 (models 74788, 74790 and 74795) says not to use the machine as a towing vehicle unless a hitch is installed, and that towed weight must not exceed the weight of the machine, operator and ballast.[4] The same manual says to attach towed equipment only at the hitch point and not to drive the machine on a public street or roadway.[4] Those rules are for those Toro models; your mower's manual has its own.
4. The pin and retainer from the implement maker. Agri-Fab's 45-0326 lawn sweeper connects to the tractor hitch with a hitch pin, two 3/4-inch spacers and a 1/8-inch hair cotter pin, with bracket setups for hitches 8 to 10 or 10 to 13 inches above the ground.[5] On its 45-03022 sleeve hitch, the hitch pin is secured with a 5/32-inch hair cotter pin.[3] Each implement's manual sets its own hardware.

- Read your mower's towing section before the first load.
- Use the pin, spacers and clip the implement's manual lists.

Common questions
How much can my lawn tractor tow?
The figure or rule in your mower's manual. Toro's TimeCutter SW 4200, SW 5000 and SWX 5000 manual, for example, says towed weight must not exceed the weight of the machine, operator and ballast; that rule applies to those models only. More in Towing with a lawn tractor or zero-turn
Can a zero-turn mower tow a cart?
Only if its manual allows it. Toro says the TimeCutter SW 4200, SW 5000 and SWX 5000 must not be used as a towing vehicle unless a hitch is installed, and towed equipment attaches only at the hitch point. More in Towing with a lawn tractor or zero-turn
What size hitch pin do I need?
The one your hitch and implement makers list. We found no verified pin diameter for any hitch, so this site gives none; check both manuals and the holes themselves. More in Towing with a lawn tractor or zero-turn
Can I drive my mower on the road while towing?
Toro says not to drive the TimeCutter SW on a public street or roadway. Check your own mower's manual for its rule. More in Towing with a lawn tractor or zero-turn
What is the difference between a sleeve hitch and a tow hitch?
A tow hitch pulls a cart or sweeper through a hitch pin. A sleeve hitch is an implement mount: Husqvarna says its sleeve hitch accepts ground-engaging attachments such as a plow, cultivator or box scraper. More in Sleeve hitch vs tow hitch
Will a sleeve hitch fit my lawn tractor?
Only if the maker lists it for your tractor. Troy-Bilt's 19B30019OEM is for Cub Cadet XT2 Enduro garden tractors from 2015 on and is not compatible with lawn tractors; Husqvarna lists its 585 60 79-01 for garden tractors with 22 and 23-inch tires. More in Sleeve hitch vs tow hitch
What attachments use a sleeve hitch?
Ground-engaging tools. Husqvarna names a plow, a cultivator and a box scraper. More in Sleeve hitch vs tow hitch
Do I need to drill my tractor's frame?
No. Use a hitch kit whose brackets the maker lists for your tractor. Agri-Fab's 45-03022 carton, for example, includes two pairs of mounting brackets for different tractor frames. More in Sleeve hitch vs tow hitch
Questions
Can I put a sleeve hitch on a lawn tractor?
Only one whose maker lists your tractor. Troy-Bilt's 19B30019OEM is for Cub Cadet XT2 Enduro garden tractors from 2015 on and is not compatible with lawn tractors, and Husqvarna lists its 585 60 79-01 for garden tractors with 22- and 23-inch tires.[2][1]
How much can my mower tow?
Only your mower's manual can say. Toro's manual for the TimeCutter SW 4200, SW 5000 and SWX 5000 says towed weight must not exceed the weight of the machine, operator and ballast; that rule is for those models only, and a hitch or pin size never sets a limit. See towing limits and hitch pins.[4]
