Short answer
There is no single 42-inch blade. Craftsman sells a 42-inch set of two blades with a 5-point star hole, another of one blade with a 6-point star hole, and a third of two blades with an S-shape hole; Cub Cadet's 42-inch set has two S-shape blades. Baggers and mulching kits are listed by maker, deck and sometimes deck style, so start from your mower's model and your old part number.

- Craftsman's CMXGZAM110108 is a one-blade 42-inch set; its other two 42-inch sets hold two blades. Count the blades your deck takes.
- Four hole shapes appear among 42-inch sets. Never drill, grind or file a hole to fit.
- Husqvarna's 42-inch double bagger is for stamped decks; check your deck style.
- Cub Cadet's front-weight warning for its double bagger on compatible zero-turns: without the front-weight kit it says serious injury or death may result.

How many blades does a 42-inch deck use?
It depends on the deck. Craftsman sells 42-inch sets of two blades and of one blade, and Cub Cadet's 42-inch set holds two. Count the blades on your deck and match the part number.[8][9][6]
Are 42-inch blade sets interchangeable between brands?
Not by width. Craftsman's 42-inch sets alone use 5-point star, 6-point star and S-shape holes, and each lists the original part numbers it replaces.[8][9][10]
Why does the S-shape hole matter?
Craftsman says the S-shaped hole on CMXGZAM110191 ensures proper installation, so the blades cannot be installed upside down.[10]
