Short answer
For a Cub Cadet lawn tractor or zero-turn with a 42-inch deck that already has mulching blades, Cub Cadet's 19A30055100 plug kit is the listed part.[1] If you need blades too, the 19A70041GFP kit for 42-inch decks includes two mulching blades, a baffle and hardware.[2] For a John Deere 42A deck, it is the BUC11053 MulchControl kit.[3]
How we chose
A kit is on this list only if:
- Its maker names the deck and the mowers it is for. Cub Cadet lists its 19A30055100 for Cub Cadet and battery lawn tractors and zero-turn mowers with 42-inch decks, and as compatible with the Troy-Bilt Super Bronco 42E XP and Mustang Z42E XP.[1] John Deere's BUC11529, a lever-action MulchControl kit, is listed for the 42A deck on the Z370R Electric.[4]
- Its maker states what is in the box. The 19A30055100 includes one molded plug and mounting hardware.[1] The 19A70041GFP includes two mulching blades, a mulch baffle, mounting hardware and instructions.[2] Where a maker gives no contents list, as with Deere's BUC11053, we say so.
- Size alone never qualifies. Troy-Bilt's 21-inch hinged mulch plug 687-06029 replaces 687-02516, 687-02516A, 987-02516 and 987-02516A, and gives no model list.[5] A kit or plug fits only through those numbers or a maker's model list.

On 2026-10-17 five kits and plugs met this bar. Craftsman's CMXGZAMA70041 contains two mulching blades, a molded plug and mounting hardware,[6] and EGO's AMP4200 plug is listed for its 42-inch Z6 zero-turns and T6 tractor.[7] On 2026-10-19 we added larger decks: Cub Cadet's 46-inch kit holds two mulching blades, a mulch baffle, hardware and instructions,[8] its 19A30042100 for 54-inch decks holds three mulching blades, a molded plug and hardware,[9] and John Deere's BUC10705 is the MulchControl kit for the 48A deck.[10]
Some kits are a plug and hardware only, with no blades listed.[1] On 2026-10-27 we added two Oregon Gator G3 mulching blade sets for decks that already have their plate: the D-42-2G, two 21-inch blades for a 42-inch deck with the Husqvarna YTH18542 on its fit guide,[11] and the 96-370, a 22-7/8-inch blade whose fit guide includes the Husqvarna YTH21K46.[12] They hold no plate, plug or baffle.

Limits to keep in mind
- Mode switching. On the BUC11053, Deere says the MulchControl baffle opens and closes with a lever on top of the deck, and that the system still mulches about one third of the material in side-discharge mode.[3] That third is Deere's figure, not a measurement by anyone else.
- Bagging. John Deere says the rear MulchControl baffle on the S240's 42-inch Accel Deep deck must be removed to install the bagger chute.[13]
- "Most". Cub Cadet's wording for the 19A70041GFP is "most" CRAFTSMAN, Cub Cadet and Troy-Bilt riding mowers and RZT models with a 42-inch deck from 2015 on.[2] Check your model.

The 19A70041GFP includes two mulching blades, a mulch baffle, hardware and instructions. The 19A30055100 includes one molded plug and mounting hardware, with no blades listed.[2][1]
Does the John Deere BUC11053 include blades?
Deere's page does not list the kit's contents, so it does not say. Check with a John Deere dealer before you order.[3]
Can I still side-discharge with MulchControl?
