Ratings and buying

What a cable attachment weight limit covers, the standards and recalls behind cable machines, and seller, return and import checks for the US and Canada.

Short answer

Identify the setup you own, buy only what its maker lists, and read every load figure in the scope its maker gives, never as the rating of your whole machine. Fringe Sport's 200 lb applies only when its pulley is paired with its Gibbon Arms,[1] and GymPin says a stronger pin never raises a machine's rating.[2] Then check who sells the listing, what the variant includes, and the return and import terms.

What this topic covers

The other topics on this site are about one kind of attachment each. This one is about the checks that apply to all of them: what a load rating covers, the standards and recalls behind cable equipment, who is selling the item, and what returns and imports cost in the US and Canada.

We do not test products, and we do not hold brand authorizations. Every rating here is the maker's or seller's statement, labeled as such.

The decisions, in order

1. Identify your setup. A rack pulley, a wall tower, a functional trainer and an all-in-one home gym each come with their own maker's rules. The cable setup finder lists the setups we cover, and identify your rack before buying a pulley shows how to name a rack exactly.

2. The maker's fit list. Fit is what a maker lists for a named host, never a universal claim. Bullet Pulley's homepage markets its pulleys without stating a rated load,[3] so a "fits all" line on a listing tells you nothing about your rack.

3. The rating's scope. A stated load rating belongs to one product, one variant and sometimes one pairing. Fringe's 200 lb is for the Gibbon Arms pairing only.[1] The Yes4All set listing claims 880 lb without saying which part or test the figure covers.[4] And the machine's permitted load comes before any add-on's figure.[2] The full explanation is in what a cable attachment load rating covers.

4. Standards and recalls. ASTM F2216 is the standard specification for selectorized strength equipment,[5] and ISO 20957-2:2024 sets added safety requirements and test methods for stationary strength equipment.[6] They govern machine design, not your add-on pin. To check a machine, search the CPSC's recalls page, which links to SaferProducts.gov for reports.[7] See cable machine standards and recalls.

5. The seller, the variant and the contents. Check "Ships from / Sold by" on every Amazon listing. Brands rarely publish which marketplace stores they authorize. MIKOLO is an exception: it names its own sites and says it sells through authorized platforms such as Amazon and Walmart.[8] Then confirm the variant and what the box includes.

6. Returns and import costs. AliExpress's Free Returns terms apply only to items marked with a Free Returns icon, and the benefit can be used once per order.[9] In the US, CBP stopped accepting duty-free de minimis entry from all countries as of August 29, 2025.[10] In Canada, the CBSA says a mailed item worth CAN$20 or less owes no duty or tax, and a gift worth CAN$60 or less is exempt, with exclusions.[11] These rules change; we last checked them on 2026-10-10. The buying checklist has the details.

How we handle disclosure

The FTC says sites that earn through affiliate links should disclose that clearly, and the closer the disclosure is to the recommendation, the better.[12] That is why this site keeps its disclosure beside its recommendations. Amazon also requires its Associates to display the statement "As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases".[13]

Common questions

Are cable attachments on AliExpress genuine?

Some are not, and few brands say. MIKOLO denies other resellers and flags an AliExpress listing as fake, so we treat MIKOLO offers there as unauthorized. For other brands, compare the listing with the brand's own site. More in Buying cable attachments on Amazon or AliExpress: what to check

How do I know the seller is the brand?

Check "Ships from / Sold by" on Amazon, and look for the brand's own statement of authorized platforms, as MIKOLO publishes. A store name or a listing alone does not prove authorization. More in Buying cable attachments on Amazon or AliExpress: what to check

Will I pay duty on a cable attachment?

Possibly. The US suspended duty-free de minimis entry from all countries as of August 29, 2025, and in Canada mailed goods over CAN$20 can owe duty plus GST, PST or HST. Recheck before ordering; these rules change. More in Buying cable attachments on Amazon or AliExpress: what to check

Are AliExpress returns free?

Only for items marked with a Free Returns icon, and the benefit can be used once per order. The return window depends on where the seller is. More in Buying cable attachments on Amazon or AliExpress: what to check

Is there a safety standard for cable machines?

Yes. ASTM F2216 is the standard specification for selectorized strength equipment, and ISO 20957-2:2024 sets safety requirements and test methods for stationary strength training equipment. Neither is a rating for an add-on attachment. More in Cable machine standards and recalls

How do I check if my machine was recalled?

Search the CPSC's recalls page by maker and model in the US, and the Government of Canada's recalls and safety alerts site in Canada. More in Cable machine standards and recalls

Does a US recall apply in Canada?

Not automatically. Canada's recalls site lists items from Health Canada and other federal sources, and a US recall does not always appear there, so check both. More in Cable machine standards and recalls

Were cable attachments involved in the Core Health & Fitness case?

No. The CPSC says the height-adjusting carriages on Core's Cable Cross Over and Dual Adjustable Pulley machines could loosen and fall; the penalty was for failing to report that defect. More in Cable machine standards and recalls

Questions

Is a cable attachment's rating the same as the machine's?

No. A rating belongs to the product, variant and pairing its maker names. GymPin says a stronger pin does not raise the machine's rating, and Fringe's 200 lb applies only with its Gibbon Arms.[2][1]

Are cable attachments on AliExpress genuine?

Some brands say their AliExpress listings are not. MIKOLO names its own sites and authorized platforms such as Amazon and Walmart, denies other resellers and flags an AliExpress listing as fake. See the buying checklist.[8]

Will I pay duty on a cable attachment shipped to the US or Canada?

Possibly. CBP stopped duty-free de minimis entry from all countries as of August 29, 2025, and in Canada mailed goods above CAN$20 can owe duty plus GST, PST or HST. These rules change, so recheck before you order.[10][11]

Has my cable machine been recalled?

Search the CPSC's recalls page for US recalls, and Canada's recalls and safety alerts site for Canada. See cable machine standards and recalls.[7]
