Short answer
Find the bolt in your model's parts list, where makers name hardware by thread, length and grade. Cub Cadet's listing style is "Bolt M6-1 x 20 Gr8.8" (710-04918) or "Hex Screw 3/8-24 x 1.5" (710-1044).[1] Order the part number your list shows, and tighten it to the value in your mower's manual.
Reading a bolt description
Cub Cadet's parts search for model 12AQC22J709 lists bolts by thread, length and property class.[1] Take "Bolt M6-1 x 20 Gr8.8" apart:
| Part of the name | Meaning |
|---|---|
| M6-1 | Metric thread: 6 mm diameter, 1 mm pitch |
| x 20 | Length: 20 mm |
| Gr8.8 | Property class 8.8, a metric strength grade |
An inch-thread listing reads the same way. "Hex Screw 3/8-24 x 1.5" (710-1044) is a 3/8-inch bolt with 24 threads per inch, 1.5 inches long.[1]
Cub Cadet's list does not say which of these items is the blade bolt.[1] Neither do we. They show how bolts are named, not which bolt your blade uses. Find the blade bolt in the blade or deck drawing for your own model and serial number.
Order the listed part
The parts list gives one number for the bolt and, where used, separate numbers for the washer and other hardware. Order those numbers. Thread is one of several properties; length, grade, head and any shoulder all matter, and we give no rule for swapping in a bolt that only matches some of them. If the old bolt is missing and you cannot find the drawing, ask the maker or a dealer with your model and serial number.
New blades often come without hardware
Check the listing before you assume a bolt is in the box.
- EGO's AB2200D set contains an upper blade and a high-performance lower blade; nuts and bolts are not included.[3]
- EGO's AB2102D set includes the upper blade of the Select Cut system, and nuts and bolts are not included.[4]
See the EGO LM2200SP page and the EGO Select Cut 21-inch page for what EGO lists for each mower, and the EGO blade sets guide for the sets themselves.

Choose AB2200D for the 22-inch aluminum-deck LM2200SP or LM2206SP, or AB2102D for the LM2130, LM2133, LM2130SP, LM2135SP, LM2150SP or LM2156SP; EGO says neither set includes nuts or bolts, so order those separately from EGO's parts list.

Inspect the bolt as well as the blade
Toro's 21465 manual tells owners to inspect the machine to make sure the blades and blade bolts are not worn or damaged.[2] A bolt with rounded flats, stripped or stretched threads, or visible damage gets replaced with the listed part. The blade replacement guide covers the blade itself.
Spindle hardware is a different part
The blade bolt threads into or through the spindle, which is a separate assembly. In January 2018, SureFit recalled riding-mower blade spindle shafts and assemblies, models 504-00341 and 504-00346, sold as aftermarket replacements for John Deere riding mowers, because the shaft can break and eject pieces.[5] That recall covers those two parts only. If your spindle or its threads are damaged, replace the parts your maker lists; never drill, re-tap or modify a spindle or blade to take a different bolt.

Questions
What size is a lawn mower blade bolt?
The size in the parts list for your model. Makers describe bolts by thread, length and grade, for example Cub Cadet's 'Bolt M6-1 x 20 Gr8.8' (710-04918) or 'Hex Screw 3/8-24 x 1.5' (710-1044); neither listing says it is a blade bolt.[1]
Do new blades come with bolts?
Not always. EGO says nuts and bolts are not included with its AB2200D and AB2102D blade sets.[3][4]
Can I use any bolt with the same thread?
Order the part number your mower's parts list shows. Thread is only one of the properties makers list, and we give no substitution rule.
How tight should a blade bolt be?
Use the torque value in your mower's manual. This site does not publish torque values.
When should I replace a blade bolt?
When it is worn or damaged. Toro's 21465 manual tells owners to inspect the machine to make sure the blades and blade bolts are not worn or damaged.[2]
