Short answer

Pick the kind of bike you ride to open its page: how to check its valve and handlebar, the tire and rim limits that apply, its carry options, the lighting rules to read and its charging notes. Where no source states a field for that kind of bike, the page says "Not confirmed" instead of guessing.

Commuter bikesSchwalbe says the permitted pressure range is printed on the tire sidewall and should never be exceeded or undershot. It advises checking pressure at least once a month and treats a loss of about 1 bar a month as normal.Look at the stem before buying a pump. Presta is thin (nominally 6 mm, per Park Tool) with a small locknut at the top that you unthread before air can go in. Schrader is about 8 mm (5/16 in), and the pump fitting presses its internal stem. Dunlop/Woods has a narrow tip over a large ring. The valve finder on this site walks through each.ORTLIEB's QL2.1 hooks are 16 mm with inserts for 8, 10 and 12 mm rack tubes; its QL2.2 system takes 8-16 mm tubes and lists a 12.5 kg maximum load. ORTLIEB lists the Back-Roller pair at 20 L and 9 kg maximum payload per bag. Topeak lists a 22 kg total load for the TetraRack M2 HD. A bag's payload and a rack's load are separate limits, and the lower one applies.Examples, not a list. California requires a white front lamp visible from 300 feet and a red rear reflector, or a solid or flashing red light with a built-in reflector, visible from 500 feet in darkness. Oregon requires a white front light visible from at least 500 feet in limited visibility. Ontario lists a white front light, a red rear light or reflector and reflective tape on the forks. Check the rule where you ride.
Road bikesSchwalbe says the sidewall pressure range should never be exceeded or undershot. Citing ETRTO, it says hookless road rims have a 5 bar maximum, which applies even when the tire sidewall shows a higher one.Look at the stem. A thin stem (nominally 6 mm, per Park Tool) with a small locknut at the top is Presta; unthread the locknut before pumping, and Park Tool suggests tapping the valve so it is not stuck. A wider stem, about 8 mm, is Schrader. The valve finder on this site walks through each. Not confirmedRules are set by place, not by kind of bike. For example, California requires a white front lamp visible from 300 feet in darkness, while Oregon requires a white front light visible from at least 500 feet in limited visibility. Check your own state or province.
Gravel bikesSchwalbe says the sidewall pressure range should never be exceeded or undershot, and that on a tubeless setup the rim's maximum applies if it is lower than the tire's.Look at the stem. A thin stem (nominally 6 mm, per Park Tool) with a small locknut at the top is Presta. A wider stem, about 8 mm, is Schrader. Some Presta valves have removable cores, recognizable by two wrench flats. The valve finder on this site walks through each.Apidura says to choose a frame pack by the frame's dimensions, not by carrying capacity, and to include water bottles and frame-mounted accessories when sizing. Its Expedition Bolt-On Top Tube Pack bolts to top-tube bosses with a strap around the steerer; bikes without those bolts need its strapped version. Restrap's 18-liter Saddle Bag attaches to the seatpost without mounts or screws.Rules are set by place, not by kind of bike. For example, California requires a white front lamp visible from 300 feet in darkness, while Oregon requires a white front light visible from at least 500 feet in limited visibility. Check your own state or province.
Mountain bikesSchwalbe says the sidewall pressure range should never be exceeded or undershot, and that there is no general pressure recommendation because the right pressure depends mainly on rider and luggage weight.Look at the stem. A thin stem (nominally 6 mm, per Park Tool) with a small locknut at the top is Presta. A wider stem, about 8 mm (5/16 in), is Schrader. Dunlop/Woods has a narrow tip over a large ring. The valve finder on this site walks through each. Not confirmedRules are set by place, not by kind of bike. For example, California requires a white front lamp visible from 300 feet in darkness, while Oregon requires a white front light visible from at least 500 feet in limited visibility. Check your own state or province.
Casual and hybrid bikesSchwalbe says the sidewall pressure range should never be exceeded or undershot, and advises checking pressure at least once a month.Look at the stem. A wider stem, about 8 mm (5/16 in), is Schrader. A thin stem with a small locknut at the top is Presta. A narrow tip over a large locking ring is Dunlop/Woods, which Park Tool says is found on less expensive bikes outside the United States. The valve finder on this site walks through each. Not confirmedRules are set by place, not by kind of bike. For example, California requires a white front lamp visible from 300 feet in darkness, while Oregon requires a white front light visible from at least 500 feet in limited visibility. Check your own state or province.
E-bikesSchwalbe says the sidewall pressure range should never be exceeded or undershot, and that heavier loads need higher pressure.Look at the stem. A thin stem (nominally 6 mm, per Park Tool) with a small locknut at the top is Presta. A wider stem, about 8 mm (5/16 in), is Schrader. Dunlop/Woods has a narrow tip over a large ring. The valve finder on this site walks through each.ORTLIEB offers optional 20 mm QL2.1 hooks for racks with 17-20 mm tubes, which it says are often used on e-bikes. Brompton says Brompton Electric uses a dedicated Front Carrier Block, so it needs an Electric-compatible Front Bag with space for the battery.16 CFR 1512 sets requirements for bicycles, and CPSC says its definition includes low-speed e-bikes under 750 W and 20 mph; section 1512.16 requires reflectors. Riding rules for lights are set by place: California requires a white front lamp visible from 300 feet in darkness, Oregon one visible from at least 500 feet.
Folding bikes (Brompton)Schwalbe says the sidewall pressure range should never be exceeded or undershot.Look at the stem. A thin stem (nominally 6 mm, per Park Tool) with a small locknut at the top is Presta. A wider stem, about 8 mm (5/16 in), is Schrader. Dunlop/Woods has a narrow tip over a large ring. The valve finder on this site walks through each.Brompton says its Front Bags carry up to 10 kg, with the load on the frame rather than the handlebars. Its US Front Carrier Block listing gives fitment for A Line, C Line Mk5 and Mk6, P Line Mk1, T Line and G Line.Rules are set by place, not by kind of bike. For example, California requires a white front lamp visible from 300 feet in darkness, while Oregon requires a white front light visible from at least 500 feet in limited visibility. The data comes from maker pages, statutes and regulators, read on 2026-10-14, and each field carries its source on the bike's page.

Why the pages ask you to check your own bike

No source we use says which valve or handlebar diameter is typical for a kind of bike. So each page tells you how to check yours. Park Tool, for example, describes the Woods/Dunlop valve as a narrow stem top with a large locking ring beneath it, and says it can be inflated with a Presta-compatible head without unthreading the ring.[1] The valve finder covers the other valve types.

What changes from bike to bike

  • Tire and rim limits. Schwalbe says the pressure range printed on the tire sidewall should never be exceeded or undershot.[2] On hookless road rims it cites ETRTO for a 5 bar maximum, which applies even when the tire shows more.[3]
  • Tubeless seating. Schwalbe says first inflation of a tubeless tire needs a strong blast of air from a floor pump, compressor or Tire Booster, and the rim's maximum applies if it is lower than the tire's.[4]
  • E-bike racks. ORTLIEB offers optional 20 mm hooks for racks with 17-20 mm tubes, which it says are often used on e-bikes.[5]
  • Folding bikes. Brompton Electric uses a dedicated front carrier block, so it needs an Electric-compatible front bag with space for the battery.[6]
  • Federal rules. The US bicycle rule at 16 CFR part 1512 sets requirements for bicycles themselves, and CPSC's guidance says its definition includes low-speed e-bikes under 750 W and 20 mph.[7] It is a rule for bicycles, not a certification for accessories.

Questions

What valve does a road bike have?

No source we use says which valve is typical for a kind of bike, so check your own. Park Tool describes Presta stems as nominally 6 mm with a locknut at the top, and Schrader stems as about 8 mm. The valve finder walks you through it.[1]

Why does a field say Not confirmed?

Because no source we checked states it for that kind of bike. We leave the field open rather than guess.

Do e-bikes need different panniers?

Sometimes, because of the rack tube size. ORTLIEB offers optional 20 mm QL2.1 hooks for racks with 17-20 mm tubes, which it says are often used on e-bikes. Measure your rack tube.[5]
