Short answer

Look at the valve and measure the bar: no source we read says which valve or diameter casual and hybrid bikes usually have. Park Tool says Dunlop/Woods valves are found on less expensive bikes outside the US and take a Presta-compatible head. A dual-valve head covers only the valves its maker names. Start with the valve finder.

Key facts

Tire and rim pressure limits
Schwalbe says the sidewall pressure range should never be exceeded or undershot, and advises checking pressure at least once a month.[1]
How to check your valve
Look at the stem. A wider stem, about 8 mm (5/16 in), is Schrader. A thin stem with a small locknut at the top is Presta. A narrow tip over a large locking ring is Dunlop/Woods, which Park Tool says is found on less expensive bikes outside the United States. The valve finder on this site walks through each.[2]
Pumps and inflation
Schrader-compatible fittings press the valve's internal stem with a plunger. Park Tool says a Dunlop/Woods valve takes a Presta-compatible head without unthreading its ring. Lezyne describes its Dual Valve floor-pump head as press-on with a locking lever and lists Presta, Dunlop and Schrader.[3][2][4]

Handlebar and mounts
CatEye lists its H-34N headlight bracket for 22-35 mm handlebars. Quad Lock designs its Handlebar/Stem Mount for bar or stem diameters from 25 to 40 mm. Measure your bar to see which range it falls in.[5][6]
Bags and racks
Not confirmedSee the commuter bike page for pannier hooks and rack loads.
Lighting rules
Rules are set by place, not by kind of bike. For example, California requires a white front lamp visible from 300 feet in darkness, while Oregon requires a white front light visible from at least 500 feet in limited visibility. Check your own state or province.[7][8]

Maker cautions
CatEye says AMPP lights with rubber strap mounts are not compatible with the H-34N bracket. Lezyne says its Slip Fit head on hand pumps and CO2 systems is Presta-only.[5][4]
Not confirmed
No source we read says which valve or handlebar diameter casual and hybrid bikes usually have, and Park Tool gives no Dunlop stem diameter.[2]

Watch out for

  • A Dunlop/Woods valve takes a Presta-compatible head without unthreading the ring (Park Tool).
  • A dual head covers only the valves its maker names; Lezyne's Slip Fit hand-pump head is Presta-only.
  • CatEye's H-34N bracket does not take AMPP lights that use rubber strap mounts.
  • Quad Lock's Handlebar/Stem Mount range starts at 25 mm, so measure a thin bar before buying.

Questions

What is the valve with a big ring at the bottom?

That is a Dunlop (Woods) valve: Park Tool describes a narrow stem top with a large locking ring beneath it, and says a Presta-compatible head inflates it without unthreading the ring.[2]

Will a phone mount fit my handlebar?

Measure the bar first. Quad Lock designs its Handlebar/Stem Mount for 25-40 mm, and SP Connect lists its Universal Bike Mount for about 20-44 mm. See how to measure your handlebar.[6][9]

Do I need an adapter for a Schrader valve?

Not if the pump's maker lists Schrader. Lezyne lists Presta, Dunlop and Schrader on its Dual Valve floor head; SILCA's Pocket Impero works only with Presta.[4][10]
