Rack landmine attachments: mount, sleeve and lock

How rack landmines mount (upright pin, upright knob or safety bar), which uprights each maker lists, how they lock, which publish a rating, and what bar ends fit.

Short answer

Choose a landmine whose maker lists your upright and hole size, locks it with a pin rather than friction alone, and publishes a load rating. Several well-known rack landmines publish no rating, and one maker says its knob has no locking feature.[1] Then check that the sleeve takes your bar end.

What a rack landmine is

A landmine is a pivoting sleeve that holds one end of a barbell so the other end can move in an arc. On a rack it attaches to an upright or to a safety bar instead of sitting on the floor. The bar's leverage acts on that one mount, so the mount and its lock are the first things to check. The landmine mounts guide covers each type in detail.

The decisions, in order

1. Mount type. Three kinds appear in the makers' pages:

  • Upright, pinned. Synergee's landmine locks into the upright with an included pin and comes in 2x2, 2x3 and 3x3 versions with a 5/8 in / 1 in hole converter.[2]
  • Upright, knob. Rogue's Monster Landmine 2.0 mounts only to 3x3 in uprights on Monster Series units with a tool-free knurled knob that Rogue says has no locking feature and must be checked before each use.[1]
  • Safety bar. Titan says its PPLDM landmine mounts on 1 in diameter safety bars.[3]

2. The upright and hole size the maker lists. A landmine for Monster uprights is not a landmine for any 3x3 rack. REP's Adroit landmine page lists no compatible hole sizes for the rack version.[4] Go by the named list; the fit finder shows each rack's numbers.

3. The lock. A pin through the upright is a stated lock. A friction knob is not, by Rogue's own description.[1] See how rack attachments lock.

4. The rating. Synergee rates its landmine to support up to 500 lb.[2] Rogue's Monster Landmine 2.0 page states no load rating, though it lists a 2 in, 10 in long DOM steel sleeve with bronze bushings.[1] REP's Adroit page lists no load rating or materials for the rack version.[4] We explain landmines without a rating but do not recommend them.

5. The sleeve takes your bar. Synergee says its sleeve accepts both 1 in standard and 2 in Olympic bar ends,[2] and describes its pivot as 180 degrees in two directions, not a full 360.[2] Titan gives a 2 in sleeve opening for its PPLDM.[3]

Buying from a brand-linked store

Yes4All's own page for its T-bar row and landmine products points its "Buy now on Amazon" buttons to Amazon.com product pages,[5] and Yes4All states a 30-day return and a 1-year warranty for its landmine attachment for barbells.[5] That product does not mount to a rack, so it is not a rack pick here. For any landmine on Amazon, check "Ships from / Sold by" before you order.

How to choose

Two approved rack landmines state a rating and a pin lock. Synergee's comes in versions for 2x2, 2x3 and 3x3 uprights, rated to 500 lb.[2] Titan's Rack-Mounted Landmine is listed for T-2, T-3 and X-3 racks, with a 5/8 in pin mount on T-3 and X-3 and an adapter tube for T-2; Titan says it does not fit TITAN Series racks.

Picks that fit2 products

Synergee: choose your upright (2x2, 2x3 or 3x3) and, for 1 in holes, a version with the 5/8 in / 1 in converter; the NC versions take 5/8 in holes only.

More on choosing

Titan: one version with hardware for T-2, T-3 and X-3 racks; not for TITAN Series racks. On Amazon, check that 'Ships from / Sold by' shows Amazon.com or the brand.
