Short answer

A quick-connect system leaves one adapter on each tool and one fitting on the hose, so the hose clicks from tool to tool. The parts only work inside their own system: Cen-Tec Quick Click, Rockler Click-Connect and DEWALT AirLock each sell their own halves. Count what has to stay on each tool before you choose.

Cen-Tec Quick Click

Cen-Tec sells Quick Click as separate parts: a threaded hose fitting with a click ring (41125), a replacement acetal click ring (40113), soft TPE tool adapters (41015, 41026, 41037, 41048) and a 1.25-inch hose extension adapter (42104).[1]

The tool adapters are labeled 0.75, 1, 1.25 and 1.5 inches and are soft TPE.[1] Those are nominal port labels, not drawings. Cen-Tec also sells dissipative TPE adapters, which it rates at 55 Shore hardness.[2]

The catch is the hose. Cen-Tec says its 41125 and 40751 threaded fittings fit 1-1/4-inch threaded crushproof hose and are not compatible with most blow-molded hoses supplied with shop vacuums.[3][4] If you have a stock vac hose, plan on a new hose. Cen-Tec offers ready-made 1.25-inch static-dissipative Quick Click hoses with tool adapters in 10-foot (95567) and 16-foot (95578) lengths.[2]

Rockler Click-Connect FlexiPort

Rockler's Click-Connect FlexiPort 64358 has a 3/4-inch ID by 1-1/4-inch OD rubber end that flexes onto or into a tool's dust port.[5] Rockler gives no stretch range, so check your port against those two figures.

Rockler says the FlexiPort needs the separately sold Click-Connect hose adapter #68066 for the hose to click into place.[5] Without it, the hose does not lock in. Budget for that adapter on the hose plus one FlexiPort per tool.

DEWALT AirLock

DEWALT's own tools use a DEWALT route. For the DWE6423 sander, DEWALT names the DWV9000 to connect to other vacuums with 1-1/4-inch hoses.[6] DEWALT's accessory index lists the DWV9036 as a 36 mm AirLock adapter.[7] The DEWALT AirLock guide covers each part.

Mixing systems

No source in our register says any two of these systems interconnect. A Cen-Tec adapter does not become a Rockler FlexiPort because the port sizes look close. Pick one system and stay in it, or keep a plain adapter for the odd tool out.

Which to choose

There is no measured ranking of these systems in our sources. Choose by fit:

  • Your hose. Cen-Tec needs threaded crushproof hose; a kit with its own hose avoids the problem.
  • Your tools' ports. Compare each port with the adapter sizes the maker states.
  • Your tool count. Each extra tool needs one more tool-end part.

Picks that fit3 products

For Cen-Tec Quick Click, choose the 95567 kit (10 ft hose with tool adapters) or the 94709 kit (16 ft hose with the expanded adapter set); both come with a Cen-Tec hose, so you don't depend on your vac's stock hose.

More on choosing

For Rockler Click-Connect, choose the FlexiPort kit with the 3 to 12 ft expandable hose, the Click-Connect hose adapter and FlexiPorts. Check each tool port against the adapter sizes first. On Amazon, check that 'Ships from / Sold by' shows Amazon.com or the brand.

Questions

What is the best quick-connect system for a shop vac?

The one whose maker lists your tools and your hose. No source in our register ranks these systems by measured performance, so pick by fit and by how many adapters you need.

Can I mix Cen-Tec and Rockler parts?

No source in our register says Cen-Tec Quick Click and Rockler Click-Connect parts interconnect. Treat each as a closed system and buy the hose fitting and tool adapters from the same maker.

Does Cen-Tec Quick Click fit the hose that came with my vac?

Probably not. Cen-Tec says its 41125 and 40751 threaded fittings fit 1-1/4-inch threaded crushproof hose and are not compatible with most blow-molded hoses supplied with shop vacuums.[3][4]

What do I need to buy for each extra tool?

One tool-end adapter per tool in that system. Cen-Tec sells TPE tool adapters in 0.75, 1, 1.25 and 1.5-inch labels, and Rockler sells Click-Connect FlexiPorts that need its 68066 hose adapter on the hose.[1][5]
