How we choose

What a product needs to be included

  • Nominal size and the actual inside or outside diameter of each end stated for any hose, cuff, adapter or fitting
  • Fitting standard stated for duct parts (hose fitting, S&D PVC, Schedule 40 or metal pipe)
  • Hoses state diameter, length, wall type and cuff ends
  • Separators state the bucket, drum or lid size and the inlet and outlet diameters
  • Identifiable model or listing with stable specifications

What we exclude

  • Fire, explosion or combustible-dust safety guarantees, including claims that grounding or any part makes a system safe (the site points to the maker's manual and NFPA guidance)
  • Health, lung or dust-exposure claims for any hose, fitting or separator, and respirators or masks (medical and protective equipment, outside this segment)
  • Advice to vacuum hazardous materials (asbestos, lead paint, silica from concrete, drywall in a vacuum not rated for it, flammable or hot debris) or claims that a part makes it safe
  • Instructions for wiring a collector, switch, remote or blast-gate automation to mains power
  • Advice to remove guards, defeat interlocks or modify a vacuum or collector motor or impeller
  • Airflow, suction or CFM figures beyond what the maker publishes, or presented as tested by us
  • 'Universal' or 'fits all' fit claims without the actual diameters stated
  • Complete dust collectors, air cleaners and shop vacuums as recommendations (they appear only as the reference systems parts fit)
  • Glues, sealants, cements and other chemicals

Claims we do not make without specific evidence

  • No fire, explosion or combustible-dust safety guarantees, including claims that grounding or any part makes a system safe (the site points to the maker's manual and NFPA guidance)
  • No health, lung or dust-exposure claims for any hose, fitting or separator, and respirators or masks (medical and protective equipment, outside this segment)
  • No advice to vacuum hazardous materials (asbestos, lead paint, silica from concrete, drywall in a vacuum not rated for it, flammable or hot debris) or claims that a part makes it safe
  • No instructions for wiring a collector, switch, remote or blast-gate automation to mains power
  • No advice to remove guards, defeat interlocks or modify a vacuum or collector motor or impeller
  • No airflow, suction or CFM figures beyond what the maker publishes, or presented as tested by us
  • No 'Universal' or 'fits all' fit claims without the actual diameters stated
  • No complete dust collectors, air cleaners and shop vacuums as recommendations (they appear only as the reference systems parts fit)
  • No glues, sealants, cements and other chemicals

Prices

Articles do not contain prices. Where a price is shown, it is the merchant's quote for the shipping destination you chose, with the time it was checked; it disappears when it is no longer current. The price at checkout can differ.

Commissions and editorial choices

We may earn a commission from qualifying purchases. Commission rates do not decide which products we recommend, and any paid placement is labeled as such.

Dates

"Editorially reviewed" dates change only when someone re-checks the article. Price checks do not change them.
