Short answer
A zero-turn bagger is a system, and its weights are part of it. Cub Cadet's double-bagger manual says its front-weight kit is required on any compatible zero-turn tractor equipped with a grass collector, and that failing to install it may result in serious injury or death.[1] A kit missing its weights or brackets is not complete, so do not mow with it until it is.
Why a zero-turn bagger is a system
A zero-turn mower bagger hangs a hopper full of clippings off the back of the machine. The maker designs the bags, boot, hose, brackets and weights to go together, so a kit is complete only when every listed part is on the mower. A counterweight is one of those parts, not an accessory.
What a complete kit lists: Cub Cadet
Cub Cadet's 42/46-inch double bagger carton (model 19A70054*) includes:[1]
- a boot assembly
- two grass bag assemblies
- bagger supports
- a hose
- adapter and hitch adapter brackets
- an RZT bagger weight with three weight plates
- weight hanger brackets
- hardware packs
The instructions also give separate part numbers for the boot (731-09329A), each grass bag assembly (664-05104), the hose (764-05082) and the bagger cover (631-05474B).[1] If one of those is missing or worn out, you can order it by number. The Cub Cadet bagger parts guide sets these out with the lawn-tractor baggers for the XT1 and XT2 Enduro.
What a complete kit lists: EGO ABK4200
EGO's ABK4200 bagger kit for its 42-inch Z6 zero-turn mower includes the bagger, bagging blades and counterweights.[2] EGO says the counterweights balance the weight of the bagger to maintain a smooth, stable ride.[2] That is EGO's wording; we could not read EGO's bagger manual, so check it for EGO's own instructions on fitting them.
EGO describes the ABK4200 as a mesh double-bin bagger with a full-bag indicator and 21-inch all-steel bagging blades.[2] EGO says the kit is compatible with all EGO POWER+ 42-inch Z6 zero-turn riding mowers.[2] See the EGO Z6 42-inch page.

Deck-specific parts
Some kits need a part only on certain decks. On Cub Cadet's 50/54-inch double bagger, 54-inch fabricated decks take the discharge chute elbow directly, while 50 and 54-inch stamped decks need a chute adapter installed first.[1] The 50/54-inch version's carton adds a chute adapter that the 42/46-inch carton does not list.[1] If your deck is stamped and you buy a used 50/54-inch kit, check that the adapter is there. See the bagger fit guide for deck styles.
Buying a used bagger
- Get the bagger's model number from its label or the seller.
- Find the maker's installation manual and its carton list.
- Lay out every part and tick it off, including weights, weight plates, hangers, brackets and hardware.
- If anything is missing, get its part number from the maker or a dealer and order it before you mow.
- Check that the kit is listed for your mower's model and deck, not only its deck size.
Do not make up missing brackets or weights from other parts. A bagger kit works as the maker designed it, with the maker's parts.

Questions
Do I need a weight kit for a zero-turn bagger?
For Cub Cadet's double bagger, yes: its manual says the front-weight kit is required on any compatible zero-turn tractor with a grass collector, and that leaving it off may result in serious injury or death. For any other kit, follow that kit's own manual.[1]
What comes in a zero-turn bagger kit?
It depends on the kit. Cub Cadet's 42/46-inch double bagger carton lists a boot, two bags, supports, a hose, brackets, an RZT bagger weight with three plates, weight hangers and hardware; EGO's ABK4200 lists the bagger, bagging blades and counterweights.[1][2]
Can I use a bagger without the counterweights?
Never against the kit maker's instructions. If weights or brackets that the kit lists are missing, do not mow with the bagger until you have them.
I bought a used bagger. How do I know it is complete?
Lay out every part and tick it off against the maker's carton list in the installation manual. If anything is missing, ask the maker or a dealer for the part number before mowing.[1]
