Short answer
Pick your serial range first. Toro's parts page for the 22-inch Recycler model 21465 offers eight serial-number intervals between 400000000 and 999999999,[1] and it keeps separate records by range, including one for 420000000 to 999999999 with its own Grass Bag Assembly drawing.[1] Then check whether the part you are ordering is the fabric bag or the frame: Toro's frame 132-4483-03 is sold without the bag.[2]

The model
The Toro 22-inch Recycler 21465 is the 22-inch Recycler Lawn Mower with SmartStow.[1] Toro says it comes from the factory ready to recycle grass clippings back into the lawn, and the grass bag is what you fit when you want to collect them.[3] So the bag is an add-on to a mower that mows without one; you replace it when it wears, not as a fix for how the mower cuts.
Step 1: your serial range
Toro's parts page for the 21465 lets you choose one of eight serial intervals:[1]
| Interval | From | To |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 400000000 | 408999999 |
| 2 | 409000000 | 411852566 |
| 3 | 411852567 | 411961727 |
| 4 | 411961728 | 412899999 |
| 5 | 412900000 | 415399999 |
| 6 | 415400000 | 418399868 |
| 7 | 418399869 | 419999999 |
| 8 | 420000000 | 999999999 |
Your serial range is the interval your mower's serial number falls into. The serial number is on the mower's model and serial plate; the model and serial number guide shows where to look. Choose that interval on Toro's page before you read any part number.
Step 2: the right drawing
Toro shows the Grass Bag Assembly and the Engine and Blade Assembly as separate drawings.[1] Open the Grass Bag Assembly drawing for your range. We could not load the parts table on the 420000000 to 999999999 record, so this page gives no bag or frame part number from that drawing. Read the numbers on Toro's page itself.
Step 3: fabric or frame
- Frame 132-4483-03. Toro's walk power mower grass bag frame is sold without the fabric grass bag. Toro says it supports the fabric bag on its FWD Recycler low wheel, high wheel and SmartStow mowers, but the page lists no model numbers.[2]
- Bag 59305. Toro describes this grass bag for walk power mowers as made for easy on and off of "your mower's bag frame". The page does not say whether a frame is included and lists no models.[4] Do not treat 59305 as confirmed for the 21465 unless it appears in your serial range's drawing.
If your frame is straight and its hooks are intact, you need only the fabric bag your drawing shows. If the frame is bent or broken, order the frame as well. The bag or bag-and-frame guide explains the three kinds of listing.
Picks that fit1 product
Choose 139-5471 only after it appears in the Grass Bag Assembly drawing for your 21465 serial range; we have not verified whether the listing includes a frame, so check yours first.

When to replace it
Toro's 21465 manual tells owners to check the grass catcher components and discharge chute frequently for wear or deterioration.[3] It says to replace them with genuine Toro parts when necessary,[3] and warns that replacement parts and accessories made by other manufacturers could be dangerous.[3]
Signs worth acting on: torn or thin fabric, split seams, a frame that no longer holds the bag open, or a bag that will not sit securely on the mower. The same manual says not to operate without all guards and safety protective devices in place.[3]
While you are in the drawings
The Engine and Blade Assembly drawing for the same serial range lists the blade and its hardware. If you are replacing a blade or blade bolt at the same time, read the blade bolt guide first, and follow Toro's 21465 maintenance steps in your manual. What a Recycler blade is, and how it differs from other blade types, is covered in standard vs high-lift vs mulching blades.

Questions
Which grass bag fits my Toro 22-inch Recycler?
The one on Toro's parts page for model 21465 and your serial range. Toro offers eight serial intervals for that model, and the Grass Bag Assembly drawing is a separate view.[1]
Is the Toro bag frame sold with the bag?
Not the 132-4483-03: Toro says that frame's bag is sold separately. Toro's 59305 bag page does not say whether a frame is included.[2][4]
Why does Toro ask for my serial number?
Because it keeps separate parts records for the 21465 by serial range, for example 420000000 to 999999999. Parts can differ between ranges, so the model number alone is not enough.[1]
When should I replace the bag?
When the manual's check finds it worn or deteriorated. Toro tells 21465 owners to check the grass catcher components and discharge chute frequently and replace them with genuine Toro parts when necessary.[3]
