Short answer
Pick the connection you see on your part (compression, barbed insert, locking nut, 1/4 in barb, hose thread, pipe thread or 10-32) to open its page. It tells you which dimension decides fit, the ranges makers state, what it meets directly and what needs an adapter.

Rain Bird names Easy-Fit for XFD dripline (0.634 in OD) | Another OD: DIG D50G (.700 x .620 in OD) and D50B (.700 x .710 in OD). Threads: DIG 15-005 (.700 in OD x 3/4 in FHT) and 24-029 (.700 in OD x 3/4 in FNPT). Rain Bird's threaded Easy-Fit adapters go only into Easy-Fit compression fittings |
| Barbed insert fittings (1/2 in, 16 and 17 mm) | The tubing's inside diameter, or the metric family the maker names (DIG: 16 and 17 mm; Rain Bird: 17 mm) | DIG: 1/2 in barbed fittings labeled 16 and 17 mm. Rain Bird: XF insert fittings, 17 mm. A distributor lists Irritec's 600 Series hose coupling for .590-.630 in ID | Rain Bird names XF insert fittings (XFF-COUP, XFF-ELBOW, XFF-TEE, XFF-MA-050) for XFD dripline, 0.536 in ID | Pipe thread: Rain Bird's XF elbow and tee adapters have a 1/2 in FPT inlet, for XF Series dripline |
| Locking-nut and spin-lock fittings | Both ID and OD: DIG lists NUTLOC by ID (.530, .600, .620 in) and OD (.630-.710 in); Raindrip lists ID x OD pairs | DIG NUTLOC: .630-.710 in OD. Orbit 67466 and 67468: .620-.710 in OD. Raindrip S5600UB: .520 x .620, .600 x .700 and .620 x .710 in | 1/2 in poly tubing whose ID and OD fall in the stated range, for example Raindrip 062010P (.620 x .710 in) in Smart Loc | Not confirmed |
| 1/4 in barbed connectors | The tubing's inside diameter; for a takeoff, the hole in the larger tubing, which UMaine says must be an exact size for the barb to seal | DIG punch assemblies: 2, 3 and 4 mm (55-102, 55-103, 55-104). DIG G79B goof plug ends: .200 in and .400 in OD | Rain Bird SPB-025 self-piercing barb joins 1/4 in tubing to 1/2 or 3/4 in tubing, inserted with the XM-Tool; no separate punch is mentioned | Not confirmed |
| Hose thread (FHT and MHT) | Thread size and gender: female hose thread (FHT) or male hose thread (MHT); 3/4 in on the DIG and Mister Landscaper head parts in our sources | DIG D45 backflow preventer and D57A screen filter (155 mesh): 3/4 in FHT x 3/4 in MHT. DIG D49 nipple: 3/4 in MHT x MPT. DIG 50007 swivel: 3/4 in FHT x MNPT. Mister Landscaper MLD-25PR and MLA-58 regulators: 3/4 in hose threads | Hose thread to hose thread (Raindrip): an FHT part onto an MHT part of the same size | Pipe thread: DIG D49 (MHT x MPT) or DIG 50007 (FHT x MNPT). Tubing: DIG 15-005 (.700 in OD x 3/4 in FHT) |
| Pipe thread (FPT, MPT, NPT) | Thread size and gender: female pipe thread (FPT, also written FNPT) or male pipe thread (MPT or MNPT) | DIG 24-029: .700 in OD x 3/4 in FNPT. Rain Bird PRF07530SX: 3/4 in MPT both ends. Senninger PRLG: 3/4 in female hose or NPT inlet. Rain Bird Xeri-Bug XBT-10 and XBT-20: 1/2 in FPT inlet. Rain Bird XF elbow and tee adapters: 1/2 in FPT inlet. DIG DSR kit: fits a 1/2 in MPT sprinkler riser | Pipe thread to pipe thread (Raindrip): an FPT part onto an MPT part of the same size | Hose thread: DIG D49 (MHT x MPT) or DIG 50007 (FHT x MNPT) |
| 10-32 thread on emission devices | The thread on the device and the riser: 10-32 (Rain Bird), written 10/32 by DIG | Rain Bird Xeri-Bug -1032 models (10-32 inlet, barb outlet). DIG 300B, 308B and 309B: bare 10/32 jet heads (2-pack). DIG 300-1B, 308-1B and 309-1B: assemblies with a 13 in stake, 12 in riser and 1/4 in barb | Rain Bird's PFR-12 PolyFlex riser works with 10-32 threaded emission devices and can be used with the RS-025T riser stake | 1/4 in tubing: DIG's -1B jet assemblies end in a 1/4 in barb; Rain Bird's Xeri-Bug also comes with a barb inlet (XB-05PC, XB-10PC, XB-20PC) instead of 10-32 |
What meets directly and what does not
Each connection type has one dimension that decides fit. Compression fittings grip the tubing's outside, so the OD matters. Barbs go inside, so the ID matters. Threads must match in type and gender.
Some joins look like they should work and do not:
- Easy-Fit adapters are not barbs. Rain Bird says Easy-Fit adapters are not barbed fittings and are to be used only with Easy-Fit compression fittings.[1]
- Hose thread and pipe thread need an adapter. DIG sells hose-thread and pipe-thread adapters for its compression tubing as separate parts, such as 15-005 (.700 OD x 3/4 in FHT) and 24-029 (.700 OD x 3/4 in FNPT).[2] Its D49 nipple has male hose thread on one end and male pipe thread on the other,[3] and its 50007 swivel adapter converts 3/4 in female hose thread to 3/4 in male pipe thread.[4]
- Match like to like. Raindrip advises matching hose thread to hose thread and pipe thread to pipe thread, and says mismatched or cross-threaded connections are the main cause of leaks.[5]
How the data is built
Each connection page draws on makers' fitting pages, catalogs and FAQs, read on 2026-10-15, with the source on every field. A stated range is the maker's statement, not a guarantee. Where no source states a field, it reads "Not confirmed".

Questions
Can I push a barb into an Easy-Fit adapter?
No. Rain Bird says Easy-Fit adapters are not barbed fittings and are to be used only with Easy-Fit compression fittings.[1]
How do I join hose thread to pipe thread?
With an adapter made for the pair, such as DIG's 50007 swivel adapter (3/4 in FHT x 3/4 in MNPT) or its D49 nipple (MHT x MPT).[4][3]
Why does my threaded joint leak?
Raindrip says mismatched or cross-threaded connections are the main cause of leaks; match hose thread to hose thread and pipe thread to pipe thread.[5]
