Pulleys on folding, flat-foot and wall-mounted racks

Rogue, Titan and REP exclude folding, flat-foot and wall-mount racks from some pulleys by name. What each maker says, and what wall stations require.

Short answer

Several makers exclude folding, flat-foot and wall-mounted racks by name, so check the pulley maker's list before you buy. Rogue, Titan and REP all name such exclusions for specific products. If you want cables without a compatible rack, a wall-mounted cable station is the other route, and its maker will say what the wall must be.

Folding racks

Rogue says neither the Monster Slinger nor the Monster Lite Slinger is compatible with fold-back racks.[1][2]

That exclusion covers Rogue's products only. It is not evidence about other brands' folding racks or other brands' pulleys. If you own a folding rack, ask the pulley maker directly and give them your rack's model.

Flat-foot racks

A flat-foot rack stands on feet rather than bolting to the floor. Three makers name flat-foot exclusions:

Maker and productExcluded racks, as the maker lists them
Rogue Monster SlingerAll wall-mount racks, RM-390F Flat Foot, Monster Collegiate Half Racks, Monster Rhino Belt Squat + Rack, fold-back racks[2]
Rogue Monster Lite SlingerWall-mounted racks, HR-2, RML-3, RML-390F[1]
Titan lat tower for T-3/X-3 racksFlat Foot racks, and T-3/X-3 racks bought before October 2021[3]
REP Ares 2.0Flat-footed racks, including the Omni, Apollo and original HR-5000[4]

Rogue also states a floor condition. The rack must be secured to the floor for the Monster Slinger and fastened to the floor for the Monster Lite Slinger.[2][1] How you do that is in the rack's and pulley's manuals, not here.

Wall-mounted racks

Rogue excludes wall-mount racks from both Slingers.[2][1] A wall-mounted rack is a different host from a floor-standing rack, so read the pulley maker's list as carefully as for any other model.

Wall-mounted cable stations

Some cable units are built to go on a wall rather than on a rack. Makers state what the wall must be:

  • Valor says the RG-26 is rack, rig or wall mountable, and wall mounting needs extra hardware into cement or studs, never drywall alone.[5]
  • MIKOLO lists a 300 lb maximum weight recommendation for its G3 plate-loaded pulley tower and says it should mount into wood studs or concrete, not drywall alone.[6]

We do not give anchoring steps. The maker's installation manual is the instruction to follow, and if your wall is not what the maker requires, the station is not a fit for that wall.

Wall stations and a wall-or-rack tower

These three are sold as wall stations or as a tower that can go on a wall. Each maker states its own mounting surface, and each rating applies to that product only.

Picks that fit3 products

MIKOLO G3: choose the G3 Cable Machine variant for a wall with wood studs or concrete; MIKOLO's 300 lb figure is its maximum weight recommendation for the machine.

More on choosing

Valor BD-62: choose the Cable Machine variant; Valor says it must go into wall studs or concrete with the included hardware and supports a maximum load of 200 lb. Titan Pulley Tower V3, Short 80.5 in: for a wall or a T-3, X-3 or TITAN Series bolt-down rack, not an X-3 Flat Foot rack; Titan rates it for 350 lb and says mounting hardware is not included. On Amazon, check that 'Ships from / Sold by' is Amazon.com or the brand.

What to do if your rack is excluded

  1. Do not modify the rack or the pulley to get around an exclusion.
  2. Ask the pulley maker whether it sells a version for your rack.
  3. Consider a wall station only if your wall meets its maker's requirement.

Questions

Can I add a pulley to a folding rack?

Check the pulley maker's list first. Rogue says neither of its Slingers is compatible with fold-back racks; that applies to Rogue's products, so ask other makers about yours.[1][2]

Why does a flat-foot rack matter for a cable attachment?

Several makers exclude flat-foot racks by name: Rogue's Monster Slinger excludes the RM-390F Flat Foot, Titan's T-3/X-3 lat tower excludes Flat Foot racks, and REP's Ares 2.0 is not compatible with flat-footed racks. The makers' pages state the exclusion; they do not all explain why.[2][3][4]

Can I mount a cable tower on drywall?

Not according to the makers we read. MIKOLO says the G3 should mount into wood studs or concrete, not drywall alone, and Valor says wall mounting the RG-26 needs extra hardware into cement or studs, never drywall alone.[6][5]

Does my rack need to be bolted down for a rack pulley?

Do what the pulley maker states. Rogue says the rack must be secured to the floor for the Monster Slinger and fastened to the floor for the Monster Lite Slinger.[2][1]
