Pulley mount hole sizes: 5/8 in, 1 in and 1/2 in

Pulley mounts ship with bolts for one hole size. What Fringe, Surplus, Valor, Rogue and REP list for 5/8 in, 1 in and 1/2 in holes, and when to ask the maker.

Short answer

A pulley mount ships with bolts for a stated hole size, usually 5/8 in or 1 in on home racks, and 1/2 in on some Valor gear. Find your rack's hole diameter, then buy a mount whose maker lists that size. If the sizes do not match, ask the maker; do not swap hardware.

Makers list the holes their mount fits

Each mount names the hole diameters it was built for:

  • Fringe Sport Sidewing Bottom Pulley: 1 in or 5/8 in holes on metric 75 mm "3x3" tubing, 5/8 in holes on 2x3 tubing, and 1 in or 5/8 in holes on 2x2 tubing.[1]
  • Surplus Strength UPS Low: racks with 1 in or 5/8 in holes, on a 3x3 or 2x3 lower crossmember.[2]
  • Valor RG-26: two M12 x 110 bolts, designed for 1/2 in frame holes. Valor does not recommend other hole sizes unless the buyer supplies compatible hardware.[3]

Valor's note is not an invitation to improvise. If your holes are not 1/2 in, contact Valor and ask what it considers compatible before you buy.

Rogue's two Slingers use different bolts

Rogue's Monster Slinger mounts with two 1 in Monster bolt assemblies. The Monster Lite Slinger uses two 5/8 in bolt assemblies.[4][5]

Those bolts belong to each product and each rack family. Buy the Slinger that matches your rack, not the one whose bolts you can source.

REP: one brand, two hole sizes

REP says its 4000 Series racks use 5/8 in pinholes, with 1 in spacing in the bench zone and 2 in spacing elsewhere. Its 5000 Series uses 1 in pinholes with 2 in spacing throughout.[6]

The original PR-5000 was not uniform either. REP says the Ares 2.0 needs the updated PR-5000 with 1 in holes along the upright; the original had alternating 5/8 in and 1 in holes.[7]

Sizes in millimeters

One inch is exactly 25.4 mm, so 5/8 in is 15.875 mm and 1 in is 25.4 mm.[8] Half an inch is 12.7 mm. These are conversions, not tolerances. They help you read a metric spec sheet, but they do not tell you whether an M12 bolt suits a particular hole; only the maker can.

Hole spacing matters too

A mount with two bolts needs two holes the right distance apart. Rogue lists the Slinger's mounting holes as 8 in on center.[4] Compare that figure with the spacing on your upright. REP's 4000 Series, for example, changes spacing between the bench zone and the rest of the upright.[6]

How to check your holes

  1. Look up your rack's specs or manual for the hole diameter and spacing.
  2. If the maker does not publish them, measure one hole across its widest point and the distance between hole centers.
  3. Send the model, year and your numbers to the pulley maker and ask for a yes or no.

Rack-specific towers

If you own a Titan T-3 or X-3 bolt-down rack, Titan sells towers for those racks by name, which takes the hole-size guesswork out of the order. Titan lists a 300 lb weight plate capacity for its T-3/X-3 lat tower and says it does not fit Flat Foot racks or racks bought before October 2021.[9]

Picks that fit2 products

Choose the Short lat tower (SKU 401035) for a Titan T-3 or X-3 Series bolt-down rack bought in or after October 2021.

More on choosing

Choose the Pulley Tower V3, Short 80.5 in, for a T-3, X-3 or TITAN Series bolt-down rack or a wall, not an X-3 Flat Foot rack; Titan says mounting hardware is not included and rates it for 350 lb. On Amazon, check that 'Ships from / Sold by' is Amazon.com or Titan.

Questions

Will a 1 in pulley mount work on a 5/8 in rack?

Only if its maker lists 5/8 in holes. Rogue's Monster Slinger uses 1 in bolt assemblies and the Monster Lite Slinger uses 5/8 in, so the two are not interchangeable.[4]

What size are my rack's holes?

Check your rack maker's specs or manual. REP, for example, says its 4000 Series racks use 5/8 in pinholes and its 5000 Series uses 1 in pinholes.[6]

Can I use different bolts to make a pulley mount fit?

Use only the hardware the maker supplies or states. Valor designs the RG-26's two M12 x 110 bolts for 1/2 in frame holes and does not recommend other hole sizes unless the buyer supplies compatible hardware; ask Valor what that means for your rack.[3]

How many millimeters is 5/8 inch?

Exactly 15.875 mm, since one inch is exactly 25.4 mm. That is a conversion, not a fit tolerance.[8]
