Short answer
For a 2-1/2 in wet/dry vac, the Dustopper PRO kit includes the separator, a 2.5 by 36 in hose and two sweep elbows, and latches onto a 5-gallon bucket you supply.[1] Its separator-only version suits owners who already have hose and elbows.[2] POWERTEC's 72295 and Rockler's Dust Right separator are sized around 2-1/4 in vac inlets.
How we chose
A separator is on this list only if:
- Its maker states the hose size its ports take. Dustopper says the PRO fits wet/dry vacuums with a nominal 2-1/2-inch hose and accessory port, and recommends vacuums of 5.0 HP and higher.[3] Oneida's manual gives the original Dust Deputy tapered ports of 2 inches OD and 1-7/8 inches ID,[4] which is the level of detail we look for.
- Its maker names the bucket and its wall. Dustopper says the PRO latches onto a standard 5-gallon bucket without drilling or tools[1] and advises a bucket 90 mil (0.090 inch) thick or thicker.[5] Oneida recommends 90 mil or more for its separators.[6]
- Its maker lists the kit contents. Oneida lists a 5-gallon 100-mil bucket, a 2-inch by 36-inch hose and two 2-inch elbows in the Dust Deputy Deluxe kit.[4] A retailer listing for the Low-Pro Deluxe kit includes a 2-inch by 3-foot hose and a 5-gallon bucket.[7] Neither Oneida kit is in our catalog yet.
- The product is an exact brand and model in our catalog, and its store listing shows a button only after a US "Ships from / Sold by" check.

Maker claims
Dustopper claims the PRO can capture up to 99.9 percent of dust and debris before it reaches the vacuum, without stating a test method.[1] That is Dustopper's claim about separation, not a finding of ours and not an air-quality statement.

Questions
Why is there no Dust Deputy here?
No Dust Deputy kit is in our approved catalog yet. Oneida's manual lists the Dust Deputy Deluxe kit contents, including a 5-gallon 100-mil bucket, a 2-inch by 36-inch hose and two 2-inch elbows; the kits guide compares them.[4]
Which Dustopper port goes to the vacuum?
Dustopper's FAQ says the top port connects to the vacuum and the front port is the pickup. Other separators lay their ports out differently.[5]
Can I use these with a dust collector?
These are shop-vac separators. Oneida, for example, says its smaller Dust Deputy is not meant for 4-inch hoses or single-stage collectors and points those users to its Super Dust Deputy.[4]
