Buying dust-collection fittings online: a checklist before you order
Before you order a dust fitting on Amazon or AliExpress: write down both ends, find the maker's page, check who sells and ships it, and read returns and recalls.

Short answer
Before you order, write down both ends you need: size, inside or outside diameter, male or female, and fitting standard. Find the maker's own page for the part and compare. Then check who sells and ships it, and read the return terms on the order page. A listing that gives no diameter for each end is a reason to stop.
Sizes: one line per end
A dust fitting has at least two ends, and each one has to mate with something you already own. Rockler advises measuring both the inside and outside diameter of each tool port and hose connector, because the port's outside diameter has to match the hose's inside diameter.[1] So a listing has to state each end, not just a family name such as "4 in."
A good maker page dimensions every end. POWERTEC lists its 70136 cone reducer at 3-61/64 inches OD and 3-41/64 inches ID on the 4-inch end[2] and 2-15/32 inches OD and 2-9/32 inches ID on the 2-1/2-inch end.[2] It also says where the part goes: hoses only, not machine ports.[2]
"Universal" or "fits all" with no diameters is a reason to stop. The nominal vs actual sizes guide explains why a label is not a fit.
The seller
On Amazon, open the order page and read "Ships from" and "Sold by". They can be different companies, and neither has to be the brand.
- Returns follow the seller. Amazon's return policy says items shipped by third-party sellers go back to the seller rather than to Amazon.[3] Those sellers must offer a US return address, a prepaid label or a returnless refund, and most items can be returned within 30 days of delivery, with exceptions.[3] That is Amazon's US policy page.
- Amazon as the shipper is not proof of the brand. One Dust Deputy listing showed Amazon as the ships-from party when our sources read it, but its sold-by and brand-store fields were not seen.[4]
- A review is not proof either. A Small Boats Monthly review says its Cen-Tec set was ordered from "Cen-Tec's Amazon store".[5] That is one buyer's account. We do not call any marketplace seller "official" on that basis.
AliExpress returns
- Only marked items qualify. AliExpress's Free Returns terms apply only to products with the Free Returns icon from sellers that take part in the program.[6]
- The window is on the order page. The current terms say the return period is subject to what the AliExpress order page displays.[6] There is no single window to quote.
- The old rules were different. The 2022 terms gave 15 calendar days after receipt for labeled items[7] and limited prepaid return shipping to three uses a month.[7] Those are the 2022 rules, not today's.
- Condition. The 2022 terms required the item to be unused, undamaged and in its original packaging.[7] Recheck the current terms on your order.
Canada
We have no verified source on duty or import charges for parts shipped to Canada. Check the order page and the carrier's terms before you buy.
Recalls
The CPSC says it is illegal to sell any recalled product,[8] and tells online buyers to search for recalls at cpsc.gov/Recalls.[9] Finding no recall is not proof that a part fits or is safe.
How we work
- Disclosure. We earn commissions from some links. The FTC says a site should disclose a commission relationship with a retailer clearly and conspicuously,[10] that a single disclosure on a home page is not enough,[10] and that the closer the disclosure is to the recommendation, the better. So every page carries its own.
- Amazon's statement. Amazon's Associates agreement requires the statement "As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases",[11] and bars Associates from implying that Amazon supports, sponsors or endorses them.[11] Amazon does not endorse this site.
- No testing claims. The FTC says you cannot talk about your experience with a product you have not tried.[10][12] We have not used these parts, so we report what makers state.
The checklist
| Check | What to look for | Stop if |
|---|---|---|
| Ends | Size, ID or OD, male or female, standard for each end | The listing gives one size for a two-ended part |
| Maker page | The same part number and dimensions on the maker's site | You cannot find the part on the maker's site |
| Fit list | Named models, or "most" read as "most" | It says "universal" or "fits all" with no sizes |
| Seller | "Ships from" and "Sold by" on the order page | You cannot tell who sells it |
| Returns | The order page's return terms | No return terms are shown |
| Recalls | A search at cpsc.gov/Recalls | The part or its maker shows a matching recall |
Parts whose makers state each end

Questions
Is the Amazon seller the brand?
Not necessarily, so check. Read 'Ships from' and 'Sold by' on the order page. A listing that shows Amazon as the shipper does not tell you who sells it, and a third-party review that mentions a brand's Amazon store is not proof either.[4][5]
Can I return a fitting that doesn't fit?
Usually, on the seller's terms. Amazon says most items can be returned within 30 days of delivery, with exceptions, and third-party items go back to the seller, who must offer a US return address, a prepaid label or a returnless refund. Read the order page before you buy.[3]
Are AliExpress returns free?
Only for some items. AliExpress's Free Returns terms apply only to products with the Free Returns icon from sellers in the program, and the current terms say the return period is what the order page shows.[6]
