Dual-valve pump heads: what "Presta and Schrader" really covers
Which pump heads makers say fit Presta, Schrader, Dunlop and Clik Valve, which are Presta-only, and why a head can fail on the wrong valve.

Short answer
A dual-valve head fits the valve families its maker names, and nothing else. Some heads take Presta, Schrader and Dunlop. Some pumps are Presta only. Clik Valve support is model by model. Read the valve line on the maker's page for the exact pump, not the listing headline.
Why a head has to match the valve
The two common valves open differently. A Presta valve has a locknut at the tip that must be unthreaded before air can enter.[1] A Schrader-compatible fitting presses on the valve's internal stem with a plunger so the tube can fill.[2] A dual-valve head has to do both jobs, so makers build it in different ways. Not sure which valve you have? Start with Presta vs Schrader vs Dunlop.
Press-on heads with a lever
Lezyne describes its Dual Valve floor-pump head as press-on with a locking lever and compatible with Presta, Dunlop and Schrader valves.[3] The same page says its Slip Fit head on hand pumps and CO2 systems is Presta only. Same brand, different head: the head on your model is what counts.
Pumps that are Presta only
Some pumps make no Schrader claim at all:
- SILCA states its Pocket Impero pumps can only be used with Presta valves.[4]
- Topeak lists the HybridRocket HP Mini as a Presta pump.[5]
- In Topeak's mini-pump range, some models list Presta only while others list Presta, Schrader and Dunlop.[6]
If any bike in your house has Schrader tubes, these will not fill them.
Switching without parts
Some pumps switch valve type without an adapter. CYCPLUS says the AS2 Pro electric pump switches between Presta and Schrader without extra parts.[7] Topeak says the E-BOOSTER DIGITAL's SmartHead fits Presta and Schrader.[8] Neither page names Dunlop or Clik Valve.
Clik Valve: per product only
Schwalbe's Clik Valve is its own system. Lezyne lists the Clik Drive HP hand pump with a Clik Valve compatible Flex Hose.[9] That is a claim for that model. We could not confirm Clik Valve support for SKS's AIRCHECKER gauge: the maker's page could not be read, so treat it as unknown. See the Schwalbe Clik valve page.
Dunlop through a Presta head
Park Tool says a Woods/Dunlop valve can be inflated with a Presta-compatible head without unthreading its large locking ring.[1] So a pump that names Presta may handle Dunlop too, but a maker naming Dunlop, as Lezyne does for its Dual Valve head, is the stronger signal.
Heads that fail on the wrong valve
- Extender-only chucks. Lezyne warns that its Speed Chuck is for valve extenders only and will fail on a regular threaded Presta valve. Lezyne says its Flip Thread Chuck is the one that fits both Presta and Schrader.[10]
- Threaded heads on removable cores. A head that screws on can unscrew a loose Presta core. Lezyne's Air Bleed System button releases hose pressure so the chuck comes off without unthreading the core.[3] More in Presta cores that come out with the pump.
| Head or pump | Valves the maker names | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Lezyne Dual Valve (floor) | Presta, Dunlop, Schrader | Press-on with lever |
| Lezyne Slip Fit (hand, CO2) | Presta | Per Lezyne |
| Lezyne Speed Chuck | Valve extenders only | Fails on threaded Presta |
| Lezyne Clik Drive HP hose | Clik Valve | That model only |
| SILCA Pocket Impero | Presta | Presta only |
| Topeak HybridRocket HP Mini | Presta | Presta only |
| CYCPLUS AS2 Pro | Presta, Schrader | Switches without extra parts |
| Topeak E-BOOSTER DIGITAL | Presta, Schrader | SmartHead |
Picks for a two-valve household
The CYCPLUS AS2 Pro is the approved pick whose maker names both Presta and Schrader.
Picks that fit1 product
Choose the AS2 Pro (black, the only variant listed). CYCPLUS says it switches between Presta and Schrader without extra parts; it names no Dunlop or Clik Valve support.

Electric pump for a pocket or bag
CYCPLUS AS2 Pro electric mini pump (120 psi, Presta and Schrader)
For home top-ups, a floor pump is the usual tool. We have not verified the valve lists of these two floor pumps from their makers' pages, so read the valve line on the listing and on the maker's page before you buy.
Picks that fit2 products
Floor pumps for home top-ups: choose the JoeBlow Sport III (TJB-S6) or the PFP-10 (blue). Confirm on the maker's page that the head names your valve.

Questions
Does a Presta and Schrader pump need an adapter?
It depends on the model. CYCPLUS says the AS2 Pro switches between the two without extra parts, and Topeak says the E-BOOSTER DIGITAL's SmartHead fits both. Read the maker's page for your pump.[7][8]
Does a dual-valve pump work with Dunlop valves?
Park Tool says a Dunlop/Woods valve can be inflated with a Presta-compatible head without unthreading its ring. Lezyne's Dual Valve floor-pump head names Dunlop along with Presta and Schrader.[1][3]
Do normal pumps work with Schwalbe Clik Valve?
Only where the pump's maker says so. Lezyne lists the Clik Drive HP with a Clik Valve compatible hose. We could not confirm Clik Valve support for other products, including SKS's AIRCHECKER gauge.[9]
Why does my pump head not seal on Presta?
First check the head is made for a threaded Presta valve: Lezyne warns its Speed Chuck is for valve extenders only and will fail on a regular Presta valve. Also make sure the locknut is unthreaded, as Park Tool describes, and follow your pump maker's instructions.[10][2]
