Short answer

The Neptune 3 Pro, Plus and Max take MK8-type nozzles and have a PTFE-lined hotend. If you fit an all-metal throat, ELEGOO says it must match the original 27 mm length. Slice Engineering's Neptune 3 kit names the Pro, Plus and Max, but not the base Neptune 3, so confirm your model before you order.

Identify which Neptune 3 you have

ELEGOO's Neptune 3 FAQ covers three models together: the Neptune 3 Pro, Plus and Max.[1] The base Neptune 3 is not in that FAQ, and none of what follows applies to the Neptune 4 series. Check the label on your printer, or use the model and revision guide. The Neptune 3 Pro page collects the model's verified specs.

Nozzles: MK8 type

ELEGOO says the Neptune 3 Pro supports MK8-type nozzles. It recommends 0.4 mm or larger, because smaller nozzles clog more easily.[1]

ELEGOO also does not recommend carbon-fiber filament on these printers, because it quickly wears the PTFE tube and the nozzle.[1] For abrasive materials, see nozzles for carbon fiber and abrasive filament, and treat the liner as the weak point.

The embedded PTFE and the 27 mm rule

ELEGOO says the hotend on the Neptune 3 Pro, Plus and Max has embedded PTFE tubing, and that a replacement all-metal throat must match the original 27 mm length.[1] A throat of a different length moves the nozzle and changes how the parts seat.

The liner is a wear part. For frequently used Neptune 3 Pro, Plus and Max printers, ELEGOO recommends replacing the hotend PTFE tubing at least once a month.[1] The all-metal vs PTFE-lined guide explains when removing the liner matters.

Slice Engineering's Neptune 3 kit

Slice Engineering's Neptune 3 upgrade kit guide lists compatibility with the Neptune 3 Pro, Neptune 3 Plus and Neptune 3 Max. It does not list the base Neptune 3. The kit includes a Copperhead silicone boot and a 37.5 mm Capricorn PTFE tube.[2]

M600 works differently from Marlin

ELEGOO says the stock firmware on the Neptune 3 Pro, Plus and Max handles the M600 filament-change command differently from official Marlin. A pause at a layer works only with M600, and the printer ignores code after M600 until the filament is changed.[1] If a slicer's pause option uses another command, it may not behave as you expect.

The Pro's voltage dial

ELEGOO says the Neptune 3 Pro needs its voltage dial set by hand for 110 V supply, while the Neptune 3 Plus and Max need no manual voltage setting.[1]

Questions

Which nozzles fit a Neptune 3 Pro?

ELEGOO's FAQ says the Neptune 3 Pro supports MK8-type nozzles, and recommends 0.4 mm or larger because smaller ones clog more easily. The same FAQ covers the Plus and Max.[1]

Can I fit an all-metal throat to a Neptune 3?

ELEGOO says a replacement all-metal throat for the Neptune 3 Pro, Plus and Max must match the original 27 mm length. Slice Engineering's Neptune 3 kit lists the Pro, Plus and Max, but not the base Neptune 3.[1][2]

Does the Neptune 3 Plus need its voltage dial set?

ELEGOO says the Neptune 3 Pro needs its voltage dial set by hand for 110 V supply, while the Plus and Max need no manual voltage setting. Check your own unit against its manual before you plug it in.[1]

Can I print carbon-fiber filament on a Neptune 3?

ELEGOO does not recommend it on the Neptune 3 Pro, Plus and Max, because carbon-fiber filament quickly wears the PTFE tube and the nozzle.[1]

Why does my Neptune 3 ignore G-code after a pause?

ELEGOO says the stock firmware handles M600 differently from official Marlin: a pause at a layer works only with M600, and the printer ignores code after it until the filament is changed.[1]
