MK8, V6, Volcano, Revo and Prusa Nozzle: which one your printer takes
Identify your nozzle standard by what your printer's maker names, why a shared M6 thread does not mean a fit, and which Prusa printers use the Prusa Nozzle.

Short answer
Order the nozzle standard your printer's maker names, not one that looks similar. ELEGOO names MK8 for the Neptune 3 Pro, Prusa names V6 for the MK3S+ and MINI+ and the Prusa Nozzle for the MK4S, XL and CORE One. Revo and Volcano have their own nozzles. Many nozzles share an M6 thread, but their lengths differ, so the thread alone does not prove a fit.

Identify by the maker's name, not by looks
Most hotend nozzles look alike: a hex, a thread and a cone. The difference that matters is the length and seat the heater block expects, and makers rarely print that on the part. The reliable route is the maker's own statement for your exact model. If you do not know your exact model or revision yet, start with identifying your printer and its revision.
The standards, one by one
- MK8: ELEGOO's FAQ says the Neptune 3 Pro supports MK8-type nozzles, and recommends 0.4 mm or larger because smaller ones clog more easily.[1] Micro Swiss gives its MK8 nozzles an M6x1.0 thread and a 13 mm overall length.[2]
- V6: E3D's 1.75 mm V6 brass nozzles use an M6 thread, and E3D says they are designed for the E3D V6 heater block.[3]
- Volcano: E3D says the Volcano hotend uses the E3D Volcano nozzle.[4] Its support page does not say whether V6 nozzles fit a Volcano block, so we do not either.
- Revo: E3D states that Revo nozzles are not compatible with V6-style heater blocks.[5] Each Revo nozzle is a nozzle and heat break in one unit.
- Prusa Nozzle: Prusa says every MK4S, MK3.9S, MK4, MK3.9, XL, CORE One/+, CORE One L and Signature Oak it ships comes with the Prusa Nozzle installed or included.[6]
Prusa: two families
Prusa groups the MK3/S/+, MK3.5/S and MINI/+ as E3D V6-type nozzle printers, and the MK4/S, MK3.9/S, XL and CORE One as Prusa Nozzle (Nextruder) printers.[7] Prusa says V6 nozzles can be used on Nextruder printers only with the Nextruder V6 Nozzle Adapter.[7] Prusa does not confirm that MK8 nozzles work with that adapter, so do not assume any M6 nozzle fits a Nextruder.
Why an M6 thread is not a fit
Bondtech offers its CHT nozzles to the RepRap, MK8 and Volcano standards, all with M6x1 threads.[8] Its listed dimensions show the difference: RepRap M6×1×7.5×12.5, MK8 M6×1×5×13 and Volcano M6×1×14.5×21.[8] Same thread, three different lengths. A nozzle of the wrong length can thread in and still sit wrong in a block made for another standard.
The same goes for heat breaks. Slice Engineering says its Copperhead heat break fits hot blocks with M6x1.0 threads.[9] That tells you the thread matches, not which nozzle standard the finished stack takes.
Printer family to nozzle standard
| Printer | Nozzle the maker names | Source |
|---|---|---|
| ELEGOO Neptune 3 Pro, Plus, Max | MK8-type | ELEGOO FAQ |
| Prusa MK3/S/+, MK3.5/S, MINI/+ | E3D V6-type | Prusa |
| Prusa MK4/S, MK3.9/S, XL, CORE One | Prusa Nozzle (V6 only with adapter) | Prusa |
| E3D Volcano hotend | E3D Volcano nozzle | E3D |
| E3D Revo hotends | Revo nozzle | E3D |
For printers not in this table, such as the ELEGOO Neptune 4 series or the Creality K1 family, the nozzle depends on the version: see the Neptune 4 ribbon cable vs Type-C guide and the K1 integrated vs quick-swap guide. The ELEGOO MK8 statement covers the Neptune 3 series only; do not apply it to the Neptune 4.

Pick by the standard your maker names. V6 (Prusa MK3S+, MINI+, E3D V6): E3D's 1.75 mm x 0.40 mm brass V6 nozzle (V6-NOZZLE-175-400), or Micro Swiss's 0.4 mm M2 hardened steel RepRap nozzle (M2600-04), for abrasive filaments too.
More on choosing
Prusa Nozzle (MK4S, CORE One): E3D's 0.4 mm brass Nextruder nozzle (PRUSA-MK4-NOZZLE-AS-0400), or the 0.4 mm DiamondBack Nextruder nozzle with a diamond tip for abrasive filaments. Revo: E3D's single 0.40 mm brass Revo nozzle (RC-NOZZLE-0400-AS-SPK). Volcano: Bondtech's 0.8 mm CHT Volcano nozzle (600-C-CHT-VOL-175). Brass is not for abrasive filaments. Questions
Are MK8 and V6 nozzles the same?
No maker we read says they are interchangeable. Bondtech lists MK8 as its own standard, and E3D says its V6 nozzles are designed for the E3D V6 heater block. Order the standard your printer's maker names.[8][3]
Which Prusa printers use the Prusa Nozzle?
Prusa lists the MK4/S, MK3.9/S, XL and CORE One as Prusa Nozzle (Nextruder) printers, and the MK3/S/+, MK3.5/S and MINI/+ as E3D V6-type printers.[7]
Does an M6 thread mean a nozzle fits?
No. Bondtech's RepRap, MK8 and Volcano CHT nozzles all use M6x1 threads but have different lengths, so the thread alone does not tell you the nozzle will sit correctly in your heater block.[8]
Can I put a V6 nozzle in a Prusa MK4S?
Only with Prusa's Nextruder V6 Nozzle Adapter, Prusa says. Prusa does not confirm that MK8 nozzles work with that adapter.[7][10]
Do Revo nozzles fit a V6 heater block?
No. E3D states that Revo nozzles are not compatible with V6-style heater blocks.[5]
