Slice Engineering Copperhead: heat break fit and torque

Slice's Copperhead heat break: M6x1.0 hot blocks, 450 °C, no torque on the heat break, 1.5 Nm for nozzles, the 3 mm longer G2, and its Neptune 3 kit.

Also listed as Copperhead

Short answer

Slice Engineering says the Copperhead heat break fits hot blocks with M6x1.0 threads and is rated 450 °C (the heat break alone). Never apply torque to the thin heat break when installing it; Slice recommends 1.5 Nm for nozzles. The Copperhead Standard G2 is 3 mm longer than the original. Slice's Neptune 3 kit lists the Neptune 3 Pro, Plus and Max.

Watch out for

  • Do not apply torque to the thin Copperhead heat break when installing it in the heat sink, per Slice.
  • Slice's 1.5 Nm nozzle figure is not safe for every nozzle; Slice itself warns some cannot take it. An Olsson Ruby, for example, is 0.5 Nm and never over 1 Nm per its maker.
  • The Copperhead Standard G2 heat break is 3 mm longer and G2 heat sinks have a 3 mm deeper bore. A G2 break in a G1 sink sticks out and may need a Z-offset change; a G1 break in a G2 sink can make fitting the PTFE tube harder.
  • The 450 °C rating is for the heat break alone, and the 33 mm³/s figure needs a Copperhead Hot Block.

Questions

How tight should a nozzle be in a Copperhead block?

Slice recommends 1.5 Nm for tightening nozzles, and warns that not all nozzles can withstand it. Never torque the heat break itself. See nozzle torque by maker.[2]

Can I mix Copperhead G1 and G2 parts?

Slice says yes, with caveats: a G2 heat break in a G1 sink sticks out and may need a Z-offset change, and a G1 break in a G2 sink can make fitting the PTFE tube harder.[4]

Does Slice's Neptune 3 kit fit the base Neptune 3?

Slice's guide lists the Neptune 3 Pro, Neptune 3 Plus and Neptune 3 Max. It does not list the base Neptune 3.[3]
