Short answer

E3D rates the Volcano at 300 °C, upgradable to 500 °C, and says it uses the E3D Volcano nozzle. E3D lists a 30 W nominal heater at 12 or 24 V and 1.75 or 2.85 mm filament. In one CNC Kitchen test with 0.6 mm nozzles, a Volcano reached about 30 mm³/s at roughly 5% under-extrusion.

Watch out for

  • The Volcano uses its own Volcano nozzle. E3D's support page does not say whether V6 nozzles fit a Volcano block.
  • 500 °C needs E3D's upgrade; the base rating is 300 °C.
  • The Volcano heater is listed at 12 or 24 V. A heater must match your printer's supply; ask E3D or a qualified person, not a forum.

    Volcano nozzle

Bondtech CHT coated brass nozzle for Volcano, 0.8 mm (600‑C‑CHT‑VOL‑175)

Choose the 0.8 mm CHT Volcano nozzle (600-C-CHT-VOL-175), not a BiMetal or standard M6 nozzle.

Bondtech lists it for E3D Volcano and other Volcano-type blocks. Bondtech says to change it hot (at least 250 °C) and not over 1.5 N·m.

Questions

How hot can an E3D Volcano go?

E3D gives a maximum rated temperature of 300 °C, upgradable to 500 °C.[1]

Do V6 nozzles fit a Volcano?

E3D says the Volcano uses the E3D Volcano nozzle, and its support page does not say whether V6 nozzles fit. See nozzle standards.[1]

How much more flow does a Volcano give than a V6?

In CNC Kitchen's 2021 test with 0.6 mm nozzles, a Volcano reached about 30 mm³/s and a standard V6 about 15 mm³/s at roughly 5% under-extrusion. One setup, not a universal result.[3]
