Pressure washer adapters: M22, quick-connect and brand fittings
An adapter is named by both ends and its PSI rating must cover your machine. Maker-stated examples from MTM, ECHO, AR Blue Clean, DEWALT, Kärcher and RYOBI.

Short answer
An adapter is named by both ends: the standard, the size (including the M22 stem, 14 or 15 mm) and whether each end is male or female. Its pressure rating must also cover your machine. If the listing leaves out either end or the rating, it is not a fit claim, however the title reads.
Read the two ends
Pressure washer adapters often have a different interface at each end. MTM Hydro, for example, sells an M22 14 mm plug by 3/8 in quick-connect coupler.[1] Write each end down the same way:
- Standard: M22, 3/8 in QC, 1/4 in QC, NPT, or a brand fitting.
- Size: for M22, the 14 or 15 mm stem.
- Gender: male (plug, outside thread) or female (coupler, inside thread).
Then check that end A matches the part before it and end B the part after it.
Adapters with both ends stated
- MTM Hydro: names its M22 adapters by inner size, for example an M22 plug (14 mm) by 3/8 in stainless QC coupler, and an M22 female 15 mm twist coupler by 3/8 in stainless QC plug.[1] MTM also sells separate M22 adaptor kits for 14 mm and 15 mm, in stainless steel or brass.[1] No ratings were shown on the collection page.
- ECHO Quick Connect Coupler Kit: two adapters that convert M22 to 3/8 in male or female connectors, listed for use up to 4,000 PSI.[2] The page gives no 14/15 mm size.
- AR Blue Clean PW554-B: a 15 mm M22 swivel inlet and a male M22 x 14 mm outlet, in aluminum and plastic.[3] AR lists no pressure rating and tells buyers to check their hose's PSI rating.[3]
- M MINGLE (sold by PWaccs): the seller lists a brass adapter from female M22 14 mm to male M22 15 mm, at 4,500 PSI maximum.[4] That is the seller's figure; we found no maker documentation.

Adapters that come in the box
Several parts ship with the adapter they need. Read the box contents before buying one separately:
- Kärcher VersaGRIP gun: a Quick Connect inlet with an M22 adapter, needed only on machines with M22 hose connections.[5]
- DEWALT DXPA45SG gun: accepts M22 or quick-connect hose connections with an included QC adaptor, and has an M22 wand outlet.[6]
- DEWALT DXPA25PH hose: M22 connections with an included 14/15 mm M22 connector.[7]
- RYOBI RY31EP26VNM pole: comes with a 3/8 in quick-connect to M22 adaptor, listed for washers up to 4,200 PSI (read on RYOBI's Canadian site).[8]
- MTM Hydro PF22.2 foam cannon: includes a 1/4 in M22 adaptor and a 1/4 in quick-connect plug.[9]
- Westinghouse PWEXT wand: a male M22-14 inlet, a 3/8 in quick plug on the gun inlet and two M22 male brass fittings in the box.[10]
Kits for the whole chain
RYOBI's RY31QCK01 is a 7-piece quick-connect kit rated for washers up to 4,000 PSI that links the garden hose to the pump inlet, the pressure hose to the pump outlet and the hose to the trigger handle.[11] The page we read did not list each piece's two ends, so check them on the package.
The rating limit
Cat Pumps says a high-pressure system is only as strong as its weakest component, so every part must be selected carefully.[12] An adapter is a component. If it is rated lower than your machine's maximum, it is the wrong adapter. If it states no rating at all, the limit is unknown.
Your machine's maker may also restrict accessories. Sun Joe's SPX3000 manual says to use only hoses, fittings and couplings the maker recommends, and to contact Sun Joe if unsure.[13]
Not established: Greenworks
We could not read Greenworks' adapter page, so its ends and the models it fits are unknown. If you own a Greenworks machine, read its manual or ask Greenworks. Do not assume an M22 stem size from the brand.

How do I connect an M22 hose to a quick-connect gun?
With an adapter whose maker names both ends, such as ECHO's kit (M22 to 3/8 in male or female, listed to 4,000 PSI), or a gun that ships with one, such as DEWALT's DXPA45SG with its QC adaptor. Match the M22 stem size and the QC size.[2][6]
Is there an adapter from 14 mm to 15 mm M22?
Yes. AR Blue Clean's PW554-B has a 15 mm M22 swivel inlet and a 14 mm male outlet, and MTM Hydro sells separate 14 mm and 15 mm kits. AR states no pressure rating for the PW554-B.[3][1]
Do adapters reduce the pressure rating?
