Short answer
Identify what you have first: a Rain Bird 1804 spray body, an 1800 head or riser, a pop-up with a 1/2 in threaded bottom inlet, or a 1/2 in threaded riser. Then use the conversion part its maker lists for that interface, with the filter and regulator it includes. No kit in this guide is listed for every sprinkler.

Start with the interface
A spray-to-drip retrofit replaces a spray head with a part that filters, lowers the pressure and feeds drip tubing. The spray zone's valve and controller stay as they are. This guide covers the parts at the head only; valves, wiring and controllers are outside it.
Each kit below lists the interface it fits. That is the first thing to match.
| Kit | Fits, per the maker | Filter | Regulation | Outlets |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rain Bird 1800-RETRO | Existing Rain Bird 1804 spray bodies | 200 mesh | 30 psi; 0.5-6 GPM | 1/2 in male-threaded swivel outlet |
| Rain Bird Riser Connection Kit | An 1800 spray head or a riser | 200 mesh | 30 psi | Swivel tee |
| Rain Bird CNV182EMT | Pop-up with a 1/2 in threaded bottom inlet | Included | 30 psi | 6-port manifold for 1/4 in tubing |
| Raindrip RS2DC | 1/2 in FPT filter regulator | 150 mesh | Not stated on its page | Two Smart Loc swivel outlets |
| DIG DSR | 1/2 in MPT sprinkler riser | 60-mesh swivel tee | Value not published here | Two .700 OD compression connections |
Rain Bird 1800-RETRO
Rain Bird says the 1800-RETRO drops into an existing Rain Bird 1804 spray head body to convert a spray zone to low-volume irrigation.[1] Its compatibility is stated for 1804 bodies only. Rain Bird lists it with 30 psi regulation, a 200 mesh (75 micron) screen and a flow range of 0.5 to 6 GPM.[1]
Rain Bird says the low-profile XF elbow and tee adapters that come in the kit, with a 1/2 in FPT inlet, can now be ordered separately, and that they are for its XF Series dripline.[2] See the 1800-RETRO page.
Rain Bird Riser Connection Kit
Rain Bird says this kit converts an 1800 spray head or a riser to a drip zone, and includes a 200 mesh filter, a 30 psi regulator and a swivel tee.[3] Its page states no riser thread size or flow range, so check the thread on your riser against the part before you buy.
Rain Bird CNV182EMT
Rain Bird says this kit converts a pop-up sprinkler with a 1/2 in threaded bottom inlet into a 6-port drip emitter system.[4] Its store page says it includes a filter, a 30 psi regulator, a manifold for 1/4 in tubing, 50 ft of 1/4 in tubing and six emitters; it excludes 1802 and 1803 bodies, and other heads in the zone must be capped.[4]
Raindrip RS2DC
Raindrip's RS2DC spray-to-drip kit includes a 1/2 in FPT filter regulator with a 150 mesh screen and an adapter with two Smart Loc swivel outlets.[5] Raindrip says the adapter fits 1/2 in, 5/8 in or 0.710 in supply tubing or dripline, and the page gives no pressure rating.[5] See Raindrip Smart Loc.
DIG DSR
DIG's DSR kit converts a 1/2 in male-pipe-thread sprinkler riser into a two-way .700 in OD compression connection, with a pressure regulator and a swivel tee with a 60-mesh screen.[6] DIG lists it for up to 100 PSI. DIG's page gives two different values for the regulator, so we do not quote one.[6]
Do I need a pressure regulator when converting?
Every kit above includes a regulator or a filter regulator. A sprinkler zone is built for spray heads, and drip parts have their own pressure ranges; the regulator guide explains how to check them. Use the kit's regulator rather than leaving it out.
Does a spray-to-drip kit fit any sprinkler?
No. Each kit names its interface: 1804 bodies, 1800 heads or risers, a 1/2 in threaded bottom inlet, a 1/2 in FPT or MPT connection. The CNV182EMT even lists bodies it excludes.[4] Match your head to the kit.
Lawns stay on sprinklers
DIG suggests conventional pop-up sprinklers, not micro sprinklers or drippers, for lawns.[7] Convert zones that water beds, shrubs or trees, and leave lawn zones as they are.
Dripline after an 1800-RETRO
None of the conversion kits above is on our product list yet. If you use Rain Bird's 1800-RETRO with its XF adapters, Rain Bird's XF Series dripline is what those adapters are for.[2]

Questions
Can I convert a sprinkler head to drip?
Yes, with a kit made for your head. Rain Bird's 1800-RETRO, for example, drops into an existing Rain Bird 1804 spray body and includes a 30 psi regulator and a 200 mesh screen.[1]
Does a spray-to-drip kit fit any sprinkler?
No. Each kit names its interface, and Rain Bird's CNV182EMT even lists 1802 and 1803 bodies it excludes.[4]
Do I need a pressure regulator when converting sprinklers to drip?
Use the one the kit includes. Rain Bird's 1800-RETRO, Riser Connection Kit and CNV182EMT each list a 30 psi regulator.[1][3][4]
Should I convert my lawn zone to drip?
DIG suggests conventional pop-up sprinklers for lawns, not micro sprinklers or drippers.[7]
