Short answer
Wahoo says its ELEMNT, BOLT and ROAM computers do not work directly with Garmin mounts.[1] Buy the mount made for your computer, or an adapter its maker supports. Within Wahoo's own range, mount fit also depends on the generation.
Two systems that look alike
Garmin uses a quarter-turn mount: you set the computer in at an angle and twist it to lock. Wahoo's computers sit on Wahoo's own mounts. The two can look close enough to tempt you to swap them. Wahoo says not to.
Its FAQ answers "No" for the ELEMNT, BOLT and ROAM alike: none works directly with Garmin mounts.[1] For the ELEMNT, Wahoo warns explicitly that direct use will damage the computer's mount interface. The same FAQ mentions third-party Wahoo-compatible mounts and adapter pucks.
Wahoo generations: which mounts carry over
Wahoo's mounting article for its third-generation computers sets out what fits:
- BOLT 3: fits stock BOLT 2 mounts, but not BOLT 1 mounts, because the longer BOLT 3 lacks clearance.[2]
- ROAM 3: fits ROAM 1 and ROAM 2 mounts, with slightly different alignment.[2]
- Older flanged BOLT and ROAM units do not fit the BOLT 3 / ROAM 3 out-front mount.[2]
| Computer | BOLT 1 mount | BOLT 2 mount | ROAM 1/2 mount | BOLT 3 / ROAM 3 out-front mount | Garmin mount |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| BOLT 3 | No | Yes | Not stated | Yes | Not directly |
| ROAM 3 | Not stated | Not stated | Yes, slightly different alignment | Yes | Not directly |
| Older flanged BOLT or ROAM | — | — | — | No | Not directly |
Wahoo's out-front mount
Wahoo's out-front mount for the BOLT 3 and ROAM 3 is for 31.8 mm round bars, and Wahoo warns that over-torquing can strip its threads.[2] Wahoo says only minimal torque is needed because the computer is light; it gives no number here, and neither do we.
Measure your bar first. Our guide to measuring handlebar diameter shows how, and the 31.8 mm bar page lists what fits.
Third-party mounts: fit is not strength
Wahoo says it tests third-party mounts for fit compatibility only, and does not stress- or weight-test mounts or their interfaces.[2] Wahoo's check covers whether a third-party mount fits the computer. Whether it holds up on rough roads is a question for the mount's own maker.
Garmin mounts
Garmin's quarter-turn mounts are made for Garmin's Edge computers. We could not read Garmin's own device compatibility list, so we name no Garmin models here. Check the product page for your exact Edge model before you buy.
