Bike mounts
Choose a bike phone, computer or light mount by the device's interface and the bar or stem diameter where it clamps, inside the range its maker states.

Short answer
Start with the device: a phone needs the mount maker's case or adapter, and a bike computer needs its own maker's interface. Then measure your bar or stem where the clamp will sit and choose a mount whose maker states a range that includes it. A mount's range is the maker's statement, not a promise for every bar shape.
What this topic covers
A mount connects two things that each have their own standard: your device's interface on one side, and your bar or stem on the other. Most wrong orders miss one of them. We report the ranges, adapters and device lists the mount makers publish, and say where no maker states one.
The decisions, in order
1. What you are mounting. A phone, a bike computer or a light. Each uses a different kind of interface, and a mount made for one rarely suits another.
2. Its interface. Phone mounts from Quad Lock, Peak Design and SP Connect each hold the phone through the maker's own case or adapter, a case interface. Quad Lock says its Handlebar/Stem Mount works with all Quad Lock cases and Universal Adaptors.[1] Peak Design's Out Front Bike Mount V2 attaches the phone with its SlimLink magnetic and mechanical system.[2] Computers differ too: Wahoo says its ELEMNT, BOLT and ROAM computers do not work directly with Garmin mounts.[3] Even within one brand, Wahoo says the BOLT 3 fits stock BOLT 2 mounts but not BOLT 1 mounts, because the longer BOLT 3 lacks clearance.[4]
3. Your bar or stem diameter at the clamp. Measure the spot where the clamp will sit, because bars change diameter along their length. Our measuring guide shows how, and the handlebar size finder shows which mounts list your size.
4. The maker's stated range and adapters. Quad Lock designs its Handlebar/Stem Mount for bar or stem diameters from 25 to 40 mm.[1] It is secured with supplied O-rings and zip ties, and Quad Lock says the zip ties can fit most tubes outside that range.[1] For flat stems, Quad Lock sells a Flat Bar Adaptor separately.[1] SP Connect lists tool-free attachment of its bike mount (SKU 53342) to bars or stems of about 20-44 mm, with one flat and one round adapter included.[5] For lights, CatEye lists its H-34N bracket for 22-35 mm bars and says AMPP models with rubber strap mounts are not compatible,[6] and Knog lists a 22.2-35 mm bar mount for the Blinder 1400.[7]
5. Out-front clearance. An out-front mount puts a computer ahead of the bar. Wahoo's out-front mount for the BOLT 3 and ROAM 3 is for 31.8 mm round bars,[4] so 25.4 mm and 35 mm bars are outside it. Wahoo also says it tests third-party mounts for fit only, not for stress or weight.[4]
Vibration and phone cameras
Quad Lock says its Handlebar/Stem Mount is not compatible with its Vibration Dampener, and it does not recommend fitting a dampener to a bicycle mount.[1] Apple's support note on vibration and iPhone cameras covers motorcycles, mopeds and scooters and does not mention bicycles.[8] So we cannot tell you a bike mount is safe for a phone camera, or that it is not.
How to choose
Match the interface first, then the diameter. On Amazon, check that "Ships from / Sold by" shows Amazon.com or the brand.
Picks that fit3 products
For a phone, choose the SP Connect bike mount (SKU 53342, mount only; it needs an SP Connect case or adapter, sold separately), listed for bars and stems of about 20-44 mm.
More on choosing
For a CatEye light, choose the H-34N bracket, listed for 22-35 mm bars (not for AMPP models with rubber strap mounts). For a Wahoo BOLT 3 or ROAM 3, choose Wahoo's out-front mount, for 31.8 mm round bars only. On Amazon, check that 'Ships from / Sold by' shows Amazon.com or the brand.

Choose the Garmin Out-Front Bike Mount or the K-Edge Max XL Combo (Garmin, 31.8 mm, black) only for a Garmin computer, never a Wahoo.

Choose the Magicshine MJ-6272 for Magicshine lights it lists, and the ROCKBROS phone holder in its handlebar-clamp version. Check the clamp diameter on the maker's page against your bar. On Amazon, check that 'Ships from / Sold by' shows Amazon.com or the brand.

Common questions
Is Quad Lock or Peak Design better for a bike?
Neither wins outright; fit decides. Each needs its own case or adapter, and Quad Lock states a 25-40 mm range for its Handlebar/Stem Mount, while we could not confirm a millimeter range for Peak Design's Out Front V2. More in Bike phone mounts: Quad Lock, Peak Design and SP Connect fit, and vibration
Will a bike mount damage my iPhone camera?
Apple's vibration warning covers motorcycles, mopeds and scooters and does not mention bicycles, so it neither warns about nor clears bike mounts. Quad Lock says the camera-vibration issue it knows of is with some motorcycles, not bicycles. More in Bike phone mounts: Quad Lock, Peak Design and SP Connect fit, and vibration
Do I need a special case?
For Quad Lock, Peak Design and SP Connect, yes, or the maker's adapter. Peak Design's Out Front V2 uses its SlimLink system, and SP Connect's mount needs an SP Connect case or adapter. More in Bike phone mounts: Quad Lock, Peak Design and SP Connect fit, and vibration
Does SP Connect fit thick handlebars?
SP Connect lists its Universal Bike Mount for handlebars or stems of approximately 20-44 mm, attached without tools, with one flat and one round adapter included. More in Bike phone mounts: Quad Lock, Peak Design and SP Connect fit, and vibration
Should I add a vibration dampener to a bike mount?
Quad Lock says its Handlebar/Stem Mount is not compatible with its Vibration Dampener and does not recommend one on a bicycle mount, though it notes the dampener can go on its Stem Cap and Out Front cycle mounts if you want it. More in Bike phone mounts: Quad Lock, Peak Design and SP Connect fit, and vibration
Can I use a Garmin mount for a Wahoo computer?
Wahoo says its ELEMNT, BOLT and ROAM computers do not work directly with Garmin mounts. For the ELEMNT, it warns that direct use will damage the computer's mount interface. More in Garmin vs Wahoo computer mounts: similar shape, different systems
Will my old BOLT mount fit a BOLT 3?
A BOLT 2 mount, yes; a BOLT 1 mount, no. Wahoo says the BOLT 3 fits stock BOLT 2 mounts but not BOLT 1 mounts, because the longer BOLT 3 lacks clearance. More in Garmin vs Wahoo computer mounts: similar shape, different systems
Are third-party out-front mounts safe?
Wahoo says it checks third-party mounts for fit only and does not stress- or weight-test them or their interfaces. Strength is up to the mount's own maker. More in Garmin vs Wahoo computer mounts: similar shape, different systems
Questions
What size are bike handlebars?
Measure yours where the mount will clamp; bars change diameter along their length. Then compare it with the maker's stated range: Quad Lock lists 25-40 mm for its Handlebar/Stem Mount and CatEye lists 22-35 mm for its H-34N bracket. See how to measure your handlebar diameter.[1][6]
Can I use a Garmin mount for a Wahoo?
Not directly. Wahoo says its ELEMNT, BOLT and ROAM computers do not work directly with Garmin mounts, and for the ELEMNT it warns that doing so will damage the computer's mount interface. See Garmin vs Wahoo computer mounts.[3]
