Air-cooled vs water-cooled spindle kits: what each package includes
What air-cooled and water-cooled spindle kits from Carbide 3D, Onefinity, PwnCNC, Genmitsu and VEVOR include, and what you still have to add.

Short answer
Compare what each package includes and what you must add, not claimed benefits. An air-cooled kit is the spindle, VFD and accessories. A water-cooled kit also needs a chiller or pump, tubing, a reservoir and coolant, and makers differ on which of those they ship. No source we found establishes a noise, accuracy or lifetime difference.
Air-cooled examples
- Carbide 3D lists its ER16 65 mm VFD kit as a 110 V, 12 A, 1,200 W rated, air-cooled spindle.[1]
- Onefinity's 80 mm 1.5 kW Redline kit is a 110 V air-cooled kit with an ER20 nut and 1/2, 3/8, 1/4 and 1/8 in collets.[2]
- VEVOR's product page 010298669207 lists a 2.2 kW, 220 V air-cooled spindle with an ER20 collet chuck and an 80 mm clamp.[3] That is the listing's claim.
Water-cooled examples
- Carbide 3D's 80 mm kit includes a water-cooled spindle, an enclosed 220 V VFD and a CW3000 chiller, among other parts.[4] Its chiller runs on a standard 110 V NEMA 5-15 outlet, while the VFD uses a 220 V L6-20 plug.[5]
- PwnCNC's water-cooled kits include a 110 V pond pump and tubing, but not coolant or a reservoir, and the kit has no finished VFD enclosure.[6] PwnCNC says water-cooled spindles should not be operated without coolant flow.[6]
- Genmitsu's V2 water-cooled kit page lists 1.5 kW and 2.2 kW variants, with ER11 on the 1.5 kW and ER20 on the 2.2 kW.[7] The page contradicts itself in places, so confirm the variant with Genmitsu.
- SainSmart's earlier Genmitsu water-cooled kit (SKUs 101-63-SPXL15/SPXL22) lists an 80 mm holder, ER11 for 1.5 kW and ER20 for 2.2 kW.[8] That earlier kit is shown sold out.
- VEVOR's product page 010501706315 lists a 2.2 kW, 110 V water-cooled spindle with an ER20 collet and an 80 mm body.[9] The same page gives the spindle length as 28.98 cm in one section and 29.98 cm in another.[9] Plan your Z clearance around the longer figure until VEVOR resolves it.
What is in the box

| Onefinity 80 mm 1.5 kW | Air | ER20 nut and four collets, 110 V | n/a |
| Carbide 3D 80 mm | Water | Spindle, enclosed VFD, CW3000 chiller, mount, boot | Coolant |
| PwnCNC water kits | Water | 110 V pond pump, tubing | Coolant, reservoir, VFD enclosure |
| VEVOR 010501706315 | Water | Listing claims VFD, pump, clamp | Length conflict on the page |
What to budget space and parts for
- A chiller or pump and somewhere to put it
- A reservoir, if the kit does not include one
- Tubing runs from the spindle to the pump or chiller
- Coolant, chosen per the spindle maker's manual
We do not advise on coolant mixes or chemicals. Follow the spindle maker's manual.
What is not established
We found no source that measures noise, accuracy or service life for air-cooled vs water-cooled spindles. Any listing that claims one is the seller's claim, not a finding.
A mount for an 80 mm body
No spindle kit is approved in our catalog yet. If you own a Genmitsu machine, its maker sells an 80 mm holder for water-cooled or air-cooled 80 mm motors:

Questions
Does a water-cooled spindle come with a pump?
It depends on the kit. PwnCNC's water kits include a 110 V pond pump and tubing but no coolant or reservoir; Carbide 3D's 80 mm kit includes a CW3000 chiller.[6][4]
What coolant should I use?
That is outside our scope. Follow the spindle maker's manual; Carbide 3D's 80 mm kit, for example, does not include coolant.[4]
Is a water-cooled spindle quieter?
Not established. We found no source that measures noise for air-cooled vs water-cooled spindles.
Can I run a water-cooled spindle without the pump on?
No. PwnCNC says water-cooled spindles should not be operated without coolant flow.[6]
