Bolt-down, flat-foot and folding racks: what the maker says before you add attachments

What Titan, REP and Rogue say about anchoring racks for dips, spotter arms and other attachments, including flat-foot and folding racks and their exclusions.

Short answer

Follow your rack maker's anchoring instruction for the attachment you are adding. Titan says its folding racks anchor to wall studs and its non-folding racks bolt to the floor, except the X-3 Flat Foot. REP recommends bolting down or adding front foot extensions for its front-mounted drop-in dip. Rogue's flat-foot RML-390F needs no bolting, but Rogue excludes some attachments from it.

Why anchoring comes up with attachments

A rack on its own and a rack with a dip, landmine or spotter arms hanging off it are loaded differently. Makers address this in two ways: some tell you to anchor the rack, and some exclude certain attachments from certain racks. Both are instructions about your exact rack, so this page only reports what the makers say. It does not give drilling or anchoring steps; for those, use the rack maker's manual and, where you are fixing into a floor or wall, a qualified installer.

Titan

Folding vs non-folding. Titan support says its folding racks anchor to wall studs, with stringers recommended, and its non-folding racks bolt to the floor, except the X-3 Flat Foot style.[1] Titan gives that answer under its tricep and lat pulley system, and the same page says the pulley cannot attach to folding racks.

X-3 bolt-down base. Titan says the bolt-down X-3 rack's base mounting holes take 3/8 x 3 in lag bolts or concrete sleeve anchors.[2] Titan gives no bolt-down specification for the flat-foot rows.

Stabilizer feet. Titan says its T-3/X-3 rack stabilizer feet do not fit X-3 Series Flat Foot racks, because the hole spacing does not match.[3] The page lists T-3 and X-3 bolt-down racks as compatible and also excludes racks bought before October 2021.

REP

REP recommends bolting the rack down or adding Front Foot Extensions when its drop-in dip attachment is used on the front of the rack.[4] REP lists that dip for the PR-4000, PR-5000, Omni and Apollo, and says it is not compatible with the 1000 Series. If you use the dip on the front, one of those two steps is REP's instruction, not an option.

Rogue: the RML-390F

Rogue says the RML-390F Flat Foot Monster Lite rack does not need to be bolted to the floor before use.[5] Rogue also states that band pegs and Safety Spotter Arms should not be used with the RML-390F.[5] The first statement does not lift the second: a flat-foot rack that needs no bolting can still have attachments its maker rules out.

If your rack is not covered here

Look for three things in your rack's manual or on its product page: whether it must be bolted down or anchored to a wall, which attachments are listed for it, and which are excluded. If the manual is silent on the attachment you want, ask the rack maker before you install it, and tell them whether the rack is bolted, flat-foot or folding.

Follow your rack maker. REP recommends bolting down or adding Front Foot Extensions when its drop-in dip is used on the front of the rack.[4]

Can I use spotter arms on a flat-foot rack?

Only if the rack's maker allows it. Rogue says Safety Spotter Arms and band pegs should not be used with its RML-390F Flat Foot Monster Lite rack, even though that rack needs no bolting.[5]

What anchors does a Titan X-3 use?

Titan says the bolt-down X-3's base mounting holes take 3/8 x 3 in lag bolts or concrete sleeve anchors. It gives no bolt-down specification for the X-3 Flat Foot.[2]

How do Titan folding racks anchor?

Titan support says its folding racks anchor to wall studs, with stringers recommended.[1]

Do Titan stabilizer feet fit the X-3 Flat Foot?

No. Titan says its T-3/X-3 stabilizer feet do not fit X-3 Flat Foot racks because the hole spacing does not match.[3]
