Wire braid vs textile braid pressure washer hoses
Construction words describe a hose's reinforcement and cover, not its rating. What SIMPSON, ProPulse, Obsessed Garage and Active actually say.

Short answer
Construction words describe a hose's reinforcement (the braid inside) and its cover (the outer layer). They do not rate it. Read the working pressure, the temperature rating and both end fittings first; then use construction to choose between hoses that already fit.
Reinforcement and cover
A high-pressure hose has an inner tube, a reinforcement layer that holds the pressure, and an outer cover that takes the wear. The reinforcement is usually a braid: either a textile braid such as polyester, or a wire braid of steel. Makers rarely publish more than that, and none we read publish a test comparing the two.
Textile braid
- SIMPSON MorFlex 40226: SIMPSON describes a polyurethane outer cover that it calls non-marking and abrasion-resistant, over a lightweight polyester braid.[1]
- ProPulse consumer UberFlex: a textile braid for reinforcement and a matte textured thermoplastic cover, with M22 x M22 fittings.[2] It is a 1/4 in hose rated 3,100 PSI maximum working pressure, cold water.[2]
Steel wire braid
- Obsessed Garage 3/8 in hose: the maker describes it as wire-braided, with steel-wire reinforcement under a nitrile cover.[3] Its page is inconsistent about how many wire layers there are, so we state none. It lists the hose at 3,000 PSI working pressure in 35 to 100 ft lengths.[3]
- Active 2.0: Active says replacement hoses for its 2.0 should be steel-braided rubber, no longer than 100 ft, with ratings that match the washer's output.[4] That is Active's rule for that machine, not a general one.
"Non-marking" and other cover words
"Non-marking" is the maker's word for a cover meant not to leave marks on the surfaces it drags over.
- SIMPSON calls the MorFlex 40226 cover non-marking and abrasion-resistant.[1]
- ProPulse describes the UberFlex as flexible and non-marking.[2] ProPulse makes no kink-resistance claim for it, and neither do we.
These are maker descriptions. They are not a promise for every surface or coating.
Bend protection
Some hoses add a bend restrictor next to each fitting to stop a sharp bend, or kink, where the hose meets the metal. SIMPSON says the MorFlex 40226 has M22 threaded connections with a double O-ring design and 4-inch bend protectors on each end.[1] Bend protectors are strain relief; they are not part of the reinforcement.
| Hose | Reinforcement | Cover | Maker's words |
|---|---|---|---|
| SIMPSON MorFlex 40226 | Polyester braid | Polyurethane | Non-marking, abrasion-resistant; 4 in bend protectors |
| ProPulse consumer UberFlex | Textile braid | Thermoplastic, matte textured | Flexible, non-marking |
| Obsessed Garage 3/8 in | Steel wire braid | Nitrile | Wire-braided |
A damaged cover means a new hose
No construction makes a damaged hose safe. Inspect the cover and both ends before each use, with the machine off.
Hoses whose construction the maker states
Picks that fit2 products
For a textile-braid M22 hose, choose the SIMPSON MorFlex 40226 (5/16 in x 50 ft, polyester braid, non-marking polyurethane cover, 3,700 PSI, cold water); check the M22 stem size on your machine.
More on choosing
For 3/8 in quick-connect ends, choose the SIMPSON Armor 41114 (3/8 in x 50 ft, 4,500 PSI) and read its construction on SIMPSON's page. On Amazon, check that 'Ships from / Sold by' shows Amazon.com or the brand.
3/8 in quick-connect hose rated for hot water
SIMPSON Armor Hose 41114 3/8 in x 50 ft 4,500 PSI hot and cold water pressure washer hose, 3/8 in QC
SIMPSON lists the 41114 as 3/8 in x 50 ft, 4,500 PSI, with quick-connect plug and socket ends.[6]

Questions
Is a steel-braided hose better?
Not by that word alone. The rating is what you compare. Some makers ask for it: Active says replacement hoses for the Active 2.0 should be steel-braided rubber. Otherwise, choose by working pressure, temperature and ends first.[4]
What does non-marking mean on a hose?
It is the maker's description of the cover. SIMPSON calls the MorFlex 40226 cover non-marking, and ProPulse calls the UberFlex truly non-marking. Neither is a promise for every surface or coating.[1][2]
Are kink-resistant hoses safer?
No source we read rates kink resistance. Champion says a kinked or damaged hose can leak and cause injection injury, and to replace a hose with a damaged cover immediately. Inspect the hose, whatever it is made of.[5]
