Triceps rope length: overall vs doubled length
What a triceps rope's listed length means, why the doubled length is what hangs below the carabiner, and what rope makers leave out of their specs.

Short answer
A triceps rope's listed length is usually the whole rope, end to end. Because the rope hangs folded from its center, what hangs below the carabiner on each side is roughly half that. Rogue lists 28 inches overall and about 11.5 inches doubled. No length is shown to be better; choose by arm length and the space below your pulley.
Overall length vs doubled length
Rogue lists its Tricep Rope Attachment at 28 inches total length, including the rubber ends, and approximately 11.5 inches once doubled.[1]
The two numbers describe the same rope. The overall length is the rope laid out straight. The doubled length is the rope folded at its center, where the connector sits, so each half hangs down on one side. That doubled figure is what you hold: it sets how far below the carabiner your hands sit and how far apart they can spread at the bottom of a pushdown.
Rogue's doubled figure is less than half its total, so do not simply halve a listed length and treat it as exact. If a listing gives only one number, assume it is the overall length unless it says otherwise.
What makers leave out
Rogue's page does not state the rope's diameter, the connector type or whether a carabiner is included.[1] That is common. Before you order, check:
- Connector: whether the rope ends in a loop, a ring or a swivel, and whether your carabiner fits it.
- Carabiner: whether one comes in the box. If the listing says nothing, assume not.
- Rope thickness: a thicker rope fills the hand more. If it is not listed, it is unknown.
Common listed lengths
| Rope | Listed length | Doubled length | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rogue Tricep Rope Attachment | 28 in including rubber ends | About 11.5 in | Rogue |
| Yes4All set rope | 27 in | Not listed | Seller listing |
| Inspire FTX included rope | Not listed | Not listed | Inspire |
Yes4All's four-piece set listing describes a 27-inch triceps rope.[2] Inspire includes a triceps rope with the FTX functional trainer, so FTX owners may not need to buy one.[3]
Which length to choose
We found no study that compares rope lengths. The studies on cable pushdowns compared handle types or exercises, not rope length. So length is a fit and comfort choice:
- Longer arms or a wide finish: a longer rope gives the hands more room to spread past the thighs.
- Low ceiling or short travel: a shorter rope keeps the hands higher, which may matter on a rack pulley with little room below the top pulley.
- Two uses: a rope also works for face pulls and overhead extensions, where a longer doubled length can feel less cramped.
Picks that fit4 products
Pick by the overall length you want. Yes4All: choose option A (27 in, Black) or option B (36 in, Black).
More on choosing
Titan's and REP's ropes come in one size each; Bells of Steel's listing gives 27.6 in. Lengths are the seller's sizing, and REP says its rope ships without a carabiner. On Amazon, check that 'Ships from / Sold by' shows Amazon.com or the brand.

Questions
What length triceps rope should I get?
No length is proven better. Listings commonly sit around 27 to 28 inches overall: Rogue lists 28 inches and a Yes4All set lists a 27-inch rope. A longer rope hangs lower and gives the hands more room to spread; pick by your arm length and the space under your pulley.[1][2]
What does doubled length mean?
A triceps rope hangs folded in half from its center, so each side is roughly half the total. Rogue lists its rope at 28 inches overall and about 11.5 inches once doubled.[1]
Do triceps ropes come with a carabiner?
Some do and some do not. Rogue's rope page does not say, so check each listing and plan to buy a carabiner if none is mentioned.[1]
Does my cable machine already include a rope?
Check its contents list. Inspire, for example, includes a triceps rope with the FTX functional trainer.[3]
