Buying bike accessories on Amazon or AliExpress: sellers, returns and import costs
How to check that a bike accessory seller on Amazon or AliExpress is the brand, what returns cover, and when duty applies in the US and Canada, from official pages.

Short answer
Confirm the exact model first, then check that the seller is the brand or a store the brand itself links to. On Amazon, read "Ships from / Sold by" on the offer you buy. Read the return terms on your actual order, and expect duty or tax on many imports: the US has suspended its de minimis exemption, and Canada's thresholds depend on how the item ships.

1. Confirm the exact model
Model names in bike accessories are close together, and the figures for one model do not carry over to the next. CYCPLUS, for example, publishes separate manuals for its AS2, AS2 Pro, AS2 Pro Max and AS2 Ultra electric pumps.[1] Check the model code on the listing against the maker's page, and check what the listing includes: a light without a cable, or a mount without the case it needs.
2. Is the seller the brand?
The best evidence is the maker's own where-to-buy page.
- CYCPLUS lists its Amazon stores for the United States and Canada among its authorized sales channels.[2] It labels one destination on that page the "CYCPLUS AliExpress Official Store",[2] and it also sells the AS2 Pro on its own website.[3] A brand store on a marketplace does not make every offer on that listing page the brand's.
- Magicshine's distributors page links to its Amazon US storefront.[4] We found no Amazon Canada or AliExpress channel on that page.
- ROCKBROS's milestones page says it was named one of the top ten overseas brands on AliExpress in 2018.[5] That is history; it does not identify a current store.
- Lezyne and Topeak tie their warranties to authorized sellers. Lezyne's US warranty applies only to products bought through an authorized dealer or distributor, with proof of purchase.[6] Topeak's covers only the original purchaser with a receipt from an authorized Topeak retailer.[7] Neither page names a marketplace seller as authorized.
- Quad Lock and Peak Design: we could not confirm a counterfeit statement from Quad Lock or Peak Design's terms for returns of products bought from other retailers. Check with the maker.
On Amazon, open the offer and check that "Ships from / Sold by" shows Amazon.com or the brand. Amazon says it strictly prohibits counterfeit products and runs a Counterfeit Crimes Unit;[8] that is Amazon's description of its own program, not proof that any listing is genuine.

3. Returns
AliExpress. Its Free Return terms apply only to items carrying a Free Return label, and AliExpress can change or remove that label.[9] Under those terms, effective November 1, 2022, you request a return within 15 calendar days of receiving the item and send it back within 15 days of the request.[9] Free return shipping is limited to three uses a month.[9] Separately, Buyer Protection covers orders that do not arrive within the guaranteed window and items that do not match their description or photos.[10] Check the terms on your own order, because they can change.
Amazon. Amazon says return options can depend on the seller, the item and the reason.[11] On its US help page, for items from a third-party seller, the seller reviews your return request. If the seller does not respond within two business days, you can request an A-to-z Guarantee refund.[11] Check Amazon.ca's own help pages for Canadian orders.
4. Import costs
United States. A US executive order suspended duty-free de minimis treatment for goods from all countries, effective August 29, 2025.[12] This is as of 2026-10-14; check current CBP guidance before you order.

Both rows come from CBSA's thresholds.[13] Since September 8, 2026, certain US-origin goods face a surtax even under de minimis thresholds.[14] CBSA's notice does not mention bike accessories, so check the Finance Canada list. CBSA also warns that a .ca website does not mean the goods are already in Canada.[15] It cannot refund brokerage fees, shipping or handling, which are private charges.[16]
5. How we handle our own links
FTC staff guidance says a site with affiliate links should disclose that clearly, and the closer to the recommendation, the better.[17] Amazon Associates may not knowingly promote counterfeit products,[18] and Amazon's policy bars calling a product a "dupe", "fake" or "faux" version of a brand that did not make it.[18] Our picks name the brand and the exact model, and we never describe look-alikes that way.

Are bike accessories on AliExpress genuine?
Some are sold by the brand and some are not, and a listing alone does not tell you. Among our sources, only CYCPLUS names an official AliExpress store, on its own where-to-buy page. For other brands, start from the maker's site.[2]
How do I know the seller is the brand?
Find the maker's own where-to-buy page and follow its links. CYCPLUS lists its Amazon US and Canada stores, and Magicshine links its Amazon US storefront. On Amazon, then check that 'Ships from / Sold by' shows Amazon.com or the brand on the offer you buy.[2][4]
Will I pay duty on a bike light shipped to Canada?
It depends on how it ships and from where. CBSA says courier shipments from the US or Mexico are free of duty and tax up to CAD $40, and duty-free but taxable up to $150. Mail, and couriers from other countries, are free only up to CAD $20.[13]
Are AliExpress returns free?
Only for items with a Free Return label, under terms AliExpress can change. Those terms, effective November 1, 2022, give 15 days from receipt to request and limit free return shipping to three uses a month.[9]
