Ankle straps for cable machines: closure, padding, D-rings and sizing
What to check on a cable ankle strap: closure, padding, D-rings, single or pair, carabiner, and why 'one size' is the maker's claim, not a fit range.

Short answer
Check three things on an ankle strap: the closure, the padding and the D-ring that the carabiner clips into. Treat "one size" as the maker's claim, because no maker in our sources publishes a circumference range. Decide whether you need one strap or a pair, and plan to buy a carabiner unless the listing says one is included.
What to check
- Closure: how the strap fastens around the ankle. Hook-and-loop is common; some makers do not say.
- Padding: what lines the inside, and how thick it is, if the maker says.
- D-ring: the metal ring the carabiner clips to. Note how many there are and what they are made of.
- Single or pair: whether the listing price is for one strap or two.
- Carabiner: whether one comes in the box.
- Sizing: whether the maker gives a range, or only "one size".
Two straps by their published specs
DMoose Ankle Straps for Cable Machines. DMoose sells them as a single or a pair, with a nylon strap, 8 mm neoprene padding, a hook-and-loop closure and two stainless steel D-rings.[1] Sizing is "one size fits most", with no circumference range or dimensions, and the page does not say whether a carabiner is included.
Body-Solid NAS3 Nylon Ankle Strap. Body-Solid describes heavy-duty nylon lined with man-made wool padding, with metal D-rings on the cuffs.[2] It sizes the NAS3 as "One Size Fits All" and publishes no wearable circumference range.[2] The page says the strap attaches to a low pulley, can be worn on the ankles or wrists, and that bands or cables attach to its metal D-rings.[2] The dimensions it lists are the product's own size, not a fit range. It does not say whether the NAS3 is sold singly or as a pair, how many D-rings there are, or whether a carabiner is included.

Sizing: what "one size" means
Neither maker publishes a circumference range, and neither did any other maker in our sources. "One size" is the maker's claim, not a measured fit. If your ankles are very slim or very large, read the listing's photos and questions for strap length, and keep the return window in mind.
One strap or two
One strap covers single-leg work on one low pulley: kickbacks, abduction, leg raises. Swap it to the other leg between sets. Two straps save the swap, and suit a two-pulley machine or exercises that load both legs. Check the variant you order, because the same listing may offer both.
Carabiners
Most strap pages in our sources do not say whether a carabiner is included. The elitefts Carabiner 2 Pack is listed as built for cable work including ankle straps, and MakeIt lists its single carabiner for attaching cuffs and accessories to cable machines.[3][4] Make sure the carabiner fits both the D-ring and your cable end; see will my carabiner fit the attachment.

For two straps, choose 'Black, Pair' on DMoose or Gymreapers; for one, choose 'Black, Single'.
More on choosing
REP's Ankle Cuff and both Harbinger cuffs (2 in and 3 in) are sold as one cuff each, so order two for a pair. Sizing is the seller's, with no published range. On Amazon, check that 'Ships from / Sold by' shows Amazon.com or the brand.

Questions
Do ankle straps fit large or small ankles?
No maker in our sources publishes a wearable range. DMoose says 'one size fits most' and Body-Solid says 'One Size Fits All' for the NAS3, with no circumference figures, so treat sizing as the maker's claim.[1][2]
Do I need one ankle strap or two?
One is enough for single-leg cable work on one pulley. Two let you switch legs without moving the strap, or work both sides on a two-pulley machine. DMoose sells its strap as a single or a pair, so check which variant you order.[1]
Can ankle straps be worn on the wrists?
Body-Solid says its NAS3 can be worn on the ankles or wrists and attaches to a low pulley. Other makers in our sources do not say, so follow your strap's own instructions.[2]
